BlackBox Network Technician (Onsite) in DALLAS, Texas

Candidate will need to be qualified in installing, testing and certifying structured and patch panel cabling in a data center environment. Candidate will also need to be familiar with network equipment installations and troubleshooting.

Introduction:

Black Box Network Services, the global leader in communication system integration, is looking for a Network Infrastructure Technician with a proven track record in:

  • Working in a structured cabling environment.

  • Installing single and multi-mode optical cabling.

  • Inspecting and cleaning installed optical cabling.

  • Installing copper cable to IEEE and BICSI cabling standards.

  • Testing installed cables using a Fluke Versiv Mainframe.

  • Decommissioning obsolete networking infrastructure.

  • Working with elevated and underfloor cabling trays.

  • Performing physical (rack and stack) installations of networking equipment.

  • Assist in troubleshooting network equipment and cabling.

This position will support facilities management, site security and project engagement with a commitment and desire to satisfy our customer by completing all work at the highest level, always striving for perfection. The candidate must be motivated and self-driven for success.

Position Details:

  • Hourly position based upon experience & skill level.

  • Long term contract with possible contract extension or hire.

  • Work hours will be Mon-Sat 6:00pm-2:00am

  • Location: Customer site - Dallas, TX 75207.

  • Client Addendum will need to be followed. Copy will be provided at the time of candidates offer.

Other Responsibilities Include:

  • The patching cabling between network equipment and customer’s network.

  • The installation of power cables from equipment to power supply in rack/cabinet/closet.

  • The installation, troubleshooting and de-installing network equipment.

  • Install/swap out cables, switches routers and etc.

  • Complete all hard and complex Move, Add Change (MAC) requests within the defined service levels.

  • Provide infrastructure cabling break-fix services for network infrastructure.

  • Perform layer 1 troubleshooting

  • Support carrier testing of circuits.

  • Assist with facilities efforts.

  • Power and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) restoral.

  • Water problems.

  • Emergency cooling restoration.

  • Fire suppression exercises, restoration, and post fire events.

  • Support inventory management activities.

  • Receiving inventory.

  • Tagging of assets.

  • Tracking spares (crash kits).

  • Ordering inventory.

  • Updating inventory records.

  • Prepare and return damaged equipment.

  • Act as an interface, as needed, between associates at the applicable location and centralized project / operations / MAC management.

Requirements:

  • Requires appropriate equipment training with high-speed fiber optic transport.

  • The ability to clean high speed single and multi-mode optical connections.

  • The ability to measure, transmit and receive on high-speed optics.

  • The knowledge and experience to work safely with high-speed single mode long range optical lasers.

  • Experienced with Fluke Versiv Mainframe

  • Requires experience in working in a data centers and communications closets.

  • Must be able to perform rack and stack activities.

  • Must be able to safely lift heavy objects.

  • Must understand cable patching processes and procedures.

  • Proven success troubleshooting layer 1 network concerns

  • Must be willing to work shift work which includes nights and weekends.

Experience and Education:

  • Must an in-depth knowledge of structured cabling

  • Knowledge of IEEE and BICSI cabling standards

  • Must have a basic knowledge of networking and network troubleshooting

Physical Requirements:

  • Heavy Work: May frequently exert force equivalent to lifting up to approximately 50 pounds and/or occasionally exert force equivalent to lifting up to approximately 100 pounds.

  • Vision: Requires the ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye.

  • Near Acuity: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.

  • Midrange: Clarity of vision at distances of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet.

  • Far Acuity: Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.

  • Peripheral: Ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point.

  • Depth Perception: Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are.

  • Ability to adjust focus: Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.

  • Color Vision: Ability to identify colors.

  • Speaking/Hearing: Possesses the ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening skills.

  • Motor Coordination: While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent is frequently required to stand; and walk. The incumbent is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend.
