Summary

The Field Technology Electrical Engineer III (FTEE) will report directly to the Director, Field Technology and will lead various projects at our manufacturing facilities throughout the organization. The FTEE is responsible for design and development of electrical control and innovative systems for GAF manufacturing processes. Remote location is acceptable for this role. The experience required for this position is described in greater detail below.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Essential Duties

  • Design process control panels and automation systems including the specification and selection of enclosures, disconnecting means, circuit breakers, fuses, transformers and power supplies, PLCs and I/O modules, motor starters and VFDs, servo drives and motors, E-stop circuits, and other components as necessary.

  • Design 480VAC power distribution systems in support of machine automation and control. Perform load calculations to define the appropriate size/capacity of components and wiring.

  • Create layout drawings, panel schedules, single-line diagrams, and bills of materials.

  • Collaborate with the Corporate Project Engineering and Corporate Process Controls teams to ensure electrical and control system designs are in compliance to GAF standards.

  • Interpret and update existing “as-built” designs with field verification.

  • Provide hands-on support for control system fabrication, factory acceptance testing (FAT), field installation/commissioning, and end user training.

  • Actively engage in sharing best practices with peers and plant personnel

  • Provide technical leadership for all field personnel in the areas of safety, quality, and performance​

  • Project Management:

  • Lead assigned projects and participate in cross functional corporate project teams.

  • Create capital project scopes of work, cost estimates, and schedules for all assigned electrical projects.

  • Create preliminary design calculations, sketches, and bills of materials (BOM) take-offs suitable for estimating the total cost of work being performed on a project.

  • Manage the design, fabrication, and installation of electrical/electronic equipment including electrical power distribution systems, PLCs, instrumentation, VFDs and servo systems.

  • Collaborate with internal customers to direct the work of contractors and/or plant maintenance personnel for project installations

  • Collaborate with local and corporate procurement teams to acquire all raw materials required for project completion.

Under This Roof, We Require

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering from an accredited university.

  • Minimum of 4+ years working in a Controls, Electrical, or Automation role in an industrial manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated experience in electrical design, power distribution and controls integration to include advanced motion/speed controls (Servo, AC/DC drives, PLC’s)

  • Understanding of PLC hardware, communication protocols, and industrial field I/O.

  • Proficiency with electrical panel design, preferably with the Autodesk software suite

  • Professional client relation skills are required to work directly with internal customer Engineering and Operations staff.

  • Up to 40% travel required

  • Experience in the design, selection, and troubleshooting of Allen-Bradley products includingPowerFlexVFDs;ControlLogixandGuardLogixPLCs;Kinetixservodrivesand motors; and Studio 5000 and related programming environments.

  • ProficiencywithRockwellAutomationsoftware:Studio5000,RSLogix500,FTView,CCW, and FTAC.

  • Programming Control Ladder logic, instrumentation and various control device configurations, database configuration, and intuitive ability to program an otherwise difficult device.

  • Knowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC)

  • Experience in the development, installation and maintenance of data acquisition systems and HMI systems such as Wonderware (preferred).

  • Experience leading projects including field supervision of installation and commissioning.

  • Working knowledge of the NEC and OSHA regulations related to electrical safety.

  • Experience with Google G Suite
