SJA, Inc. Development Engineer in Dadeville, Alabama

  • Lead the design of vehicle components such as spoilers, console boxes, and glove boxes using CAD software, ensuring designs are functional, manufacturable, and meet customer specifications;
  • Participate in design reviews, presenting ideas, specifications, and analysis of designs to ensure compliance with quality standards, regulations, and customer requirements;
  • Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes to ensure parts are designed efficiently for mass production while minimizing costs and material waste;
  • Use advanced CAD tools to create three-dimensional models of parts and run simulations using Finite Element Analysis ("FEA") and other tools to validate the design;
  • Determine the most suitable materials for automotive parts, considering factors like durability, weight, cost, and environmental impact;
  • Oversee or conduct durability and reliability testing of newly developed automotive parts to ensure they meet automotive industry standards and can withstand the stresses and conditions they will encounter in vehicles;
  • Document and analyze testing results, preparing detailed reports and making recommendations for design improvements or adjustments based on test data;
  • Lead part inspections at various stages of development, including prototypes, initial try-out, and production, ensuring compliance with design specifications and quality standards;
  • Develop and manage development project timelines, ensuring the timely delivery of new product designs and prototype parts;
  • Lead the development and validation of molds, fixtures, and tooling required for production, ensuring that tooling meets design specifications and is capable of producing parts consistently and accurately;
  • Work closely with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve design issues, improve part performance, and implement design changes;
  • Communicate with internal stakeholders and customers to ensure that product designs meet expectations and resolve any technical issues or concerns;
  • Continuously look for opportunities to innovate new product designs that enhance performance, aesthetics, and functionality for end customers;
  • Lead initiatives to improve existing part designs based on customer feedback, manufacturing limitations, or technological advancements;
  • Keep up with the latest trends in automotive engineering, materials, and manufacturing technologies, applying new knowledge to optimize product design and development processes,
  • Manage development project budgets, ensuring that product development stays within cost constraints and provide forecasts and ensure efficient use of resources; and
  • Ensure that designs meet regulatory standards for safety, environmental impact, and quality.

Requirements;

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field of study;
  • Experience in automotive parts manufacturing industry;
  • Knowledge of mechanical design principles, finite element analysis, manufacturing processes, and materials science;
  • Analytical skills including reverse engineering and problem-solving skills;
  • Proficiency in CAD software.
