Position Summary
DRS Network & Imaging Systems in Cypress, CA is part of the Electro-Optical and Infrared Systems Group of Leonardo DRS and has over 30 years of experience in designing and developing electro-optical/infrared systems for surveillance and targeting applications. We are seeking a Principal Test Engineer to join the company in the development of strategic space and weather systems.
Basic Qualifications and Required Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering or related technical field with a minimum of 8 years of experience; MS degree in Engineering preferred
Ability to obtain and retain a security clearance is required
Electro-Optical Systems Testing and Measurements with expertise in the following:
Requirements Verification Methods and Processes (flow down of requirements into test methods and procedures) Test Plan, Test Procedure and Test Report development
Hands on Integration and Testing activities (System operation, System Calibration, Data taking, troubleshooting, fault analysis)
Knowledge of Optical Systems, detectors, cameras, telescopes including Visible and Infrared wavelengths
Optical Systems measurements and data processing including Optical MTF, Detector Noise, Optical Boresight measurements, Optical Field of View
Experience with test equipment: Collimators, Interferometers, Thermal Chambers and Vibration Tables
Experience with MatLab, ImageJ, MathCad and MSOffice
Emphasis on Matlab scripting for automated data processing
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Involved with the design and development of test programs to measure the functionality and integrity of products and services. Write test procedures and protocols to assess product reliability and evaluates the ability of products to meet performance standards and specifications. Debug test hardware and software.
Responsible for driving technology and completion of activity on time and budget
Ability to complete a technical project independently
Mentor and coach other engineers.
Review customer specifications and requirements, and develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable
Provide budget, cost and schedule input for design assignments
Document component and subsystem specifications and material requirements
Analyze designs as necessary
Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services
Support the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements
Develop prototypes to retire key development risks
Communicate clearly (written and oral) with manufacturing, supply chain, program management and the customer as required
Participate heavily in preparation of the more complex and significant proposals
Provide technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
Interact with technical management, other professionals, technicians and support personnel to coordinate, recommend and confer regarding technical activities and progress
Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
Other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Normal for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work and local travel.
U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
The expected pay scale for this position is $113,385/year - $176,031/year. Should the level, location, or scope of the position change during the hiring process, the pay scale may be modified accordingly.
