Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District Plant Utility Maintenance Person - Welder in Cuyahoga Heights, Ohio

Description JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision, performs skilled work in the repair, fabrication, and maintenance of plant equipment. Welds, joins and fabricates piping and piping support by using SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) welding processes. Joint and fabrication cutting by: Mechanical, Oxy-fuel and Plasma; performs skilled maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems at wastewater treatment plants and pump stations; performs skilled work in maintaining and repairing piping, fixtures and equipment for gas and fuel systems; performs related work as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Layouts, cuts to size and joins metal by using: Mechanical, Oxy-fuel cutting, Plasma cutting, SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) welding equipment. - Performs plumbing, pipefitting, welding, sheet metal and structural work. - Performs allied metal working tasks such as drilling, grinding and cutting. - Installs, modifies, maintains, repairs, overhauls, tests and adjusts a variety of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical equipment and machinery. - Performs shaft alignment tasks and sets up rigging as required. - Lubricates equipment. - Troubleshoots and analyzes faulty equipment. - Performs electrical work as required such as motor disconnection and phase testing. - Performs predictive and preventive maintenance on equipment utilizing vibration equipment, volt-ohm meters, ammeters, temperature sensing and other equipment. - Utilizes the computerized maintenance management system as necessary to aid in performing predictive, preventive and repair tasks, and assists the supervisor in planning work. - Fabricates parts using shop equipment. - Designs layout work on new equipment and makes recommendations on modification to existing equipment. - Works from complex engineering drawings to complete projects and assigned work. - Interprets and alters drawings or blueprints to make field fits. - Performs general maintenance and repair on buildings, structure and grounds such as wall, roof and road. - Assists supervisor in training maintenance employees. - Observes safe work practices and ensures that work done does not endanger others. - Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION - Candidate must possess a High school diploma or it's GED Equivalent, trade, or technical school graduate. EXPERIENCE - Candidate must have a minimum of five (5) years' experience in mechanical, electrical, fabrication and welding works. Additional related education may be substituted for work experience. - Candidate must have a minimum of five (5) years' experience in the use of Oxy-fuel and Plasma cutting, welding in stainless steel, aluminum and carbon steel in SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), GMAW(Gas Metal Arc Welding) and GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) or successful completion of a welding apprenticeship. - Experience in interpretation of technical manuals, drawings and specifications, including layouts, blueprints and schematics. LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS - Candidate must possess a 6G Welding Certification or obtain within 90 days of employment. Must have the ability to pass a 6G open root in carbon steel pipe using SMAW Electrodes for root, fill and cap on test coupons and a 6G open root in stainless steel pipe using GTAW for root, fill and cap on test coupons. - Candidate must possess a valid driver's license with a driving record in accordance with the District's acceptable guidelines.
