Apple is looking for a highly motivated senior hardware development engineer to join Display Technologies Organization to work on technology development of new display and optical module architectures for future Apple products. The engineer will be working in a highly technical, multi-disciplinary, fast paced team from Apple’s Module Technology Center (MTC). The candidate is encouraged to work efficiently and smartly to bringup new module concepts and technologies to enable next generations of product architectures. Projects will require abilities to plan systemically for technology proof-of-concept work, doing hands-on experimentation and prototyping without sacrificing quality or attention to detail, and transferring scalable solutions to MP product teams. This is a hands-on interdisciplinary development role that will require versatility across a variety of tasks in a highly collaborative environment.

Description

  • Define technical work scope, drive technical directions, and make systematic development plans to establish fundamental engineering learnings and meet product interception schedule. - Initiate new module technologies to enable challenging design architectures in display and optics. - Hands-on design, build, test, and refine hardware prototypes and systems in MTC’s labs to enable critical technology proof-of-concept and convergence. - Hands-on drive process development in MTC's labs, including resource and DOE planning, empirical validation trials, data analysis and visualization, parameter optimization, and realistic risk assessment. - Collaboratively work with cross-functional teams to plan and align the development strategy, and demonstrate technical results / issues to executives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or relevant engineering field with minimum 10 years of experience is required.

  • Experience in driving technology development projects in R&D environment or similar early-phase stages.

  • Hands-on experience in designing, building and optimizing mechanical / optical / electrical systems and prototypes.

  • Demonstrated experience in process development, characterization, and data analysis to enable, improve and realize new design architectures.

  • Good technical communication to drive cross-functional planning & alignment, demonstrate development results or communicate technical issues to executive managements.

  • Strong planning, organization and documentation skills.

  • Passion for innovation and motivated to constantly learn new areas and skills to expand knowledge and scope.

Key Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or relevant engineering field with minimum 5 years of experience is preferred.

  • Proficient in mechanical design (i.e. NX, Solidworks), GD&T, and precision manufacturing techniques.

  • Hands-on experience in Opto-mechanical system, Metrology, Optical science and leveraging optical simulation tools (i.e. Zemax).

  • Hands-on experience in designing and developing control systems and software interface (i.e. Labview, Python, etc), Mechatronics and robotics, Sensing technology and integrations.

  • Strong knowledge in data processing, statistical tools and data visualization using Matlab, Python, JMP, or similar tools.

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $170,700 and $300,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
