Allegany County - Human Resources Patrol Deputy Sheriff in Cumberland, Maryland

SUMMARY

This sworn professional position provides a full range of law enforcement services to Allegany County through community oriented and team management approaches. General supervision is provided through the chain of command; however, Deputies must frequently exercise independent judgment and administrative discretion.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent. The applicant must be a U.S. Citizen and 21 years of age by academy completion. The applicant must have a valid driver's license with ability to be insured under the Countys motor vehicle insurance policy and complete the physical agility requirements. For certified officers, one (1) year of experience as a certified law enforcement officer in the State of Maryland, or an amount of education and experience required for certification by the Maryland Police Training Commission. No criminal record. (A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to learn and apply police/law enforcement principles, practices, methods, techniques, and equipment in daily work situations. Ability and willingness to perform work under adverse and at times dangerous conditions, in unpleasant environments, during daytime and nighttime hours, and for extended periods of time. Ability to operate motor vehicles and, after training, police issued equipment. Ability to read, interpret, and follow rules, regulations, written and/or oral instructions or orders. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with superiors, other employees and the public. Ability to meet the selection standards promulgated by the County and the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.

COMPENSATION

This is a full-time non-exempt bargaining unit position for Allegany County. Starting salary $49,027.81 with a complete benefits package including life and health insurance, paid leave, and pension.
