Sony Pictures Television is looking for a strong leader to join our team as Director, Research Strategy & Business Intelligence. We are seeking a highly collaborative and experienced leader who will be at the intersection of data, analytics and creative television production, playing a pivotal role in scaling the capabilities of the Research Strategy and Analysis team. In this role, the Director will collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders across SPT and manage the ingestion of large data sets, advance automation opportunities, and leverage cutting-edge data science techniques to drive strategic decision-making and business growth. The ideal candidate will have strong background with entertainment KPIs, market intelligence, research strategy, data management, and business intelligence, with a proven track record of building impactful dashboards and developing analytic solutions and predictive models. The Director, Research Strategy & Business Intelligence will report to the VP Research, Strategy & Analysis.

Responsibilities:

Data Management

The Director will lead the development and execution of research strategy and business intelligence initiatives to support key business objectives and drive the growth and scale of Production Research. This leader will be our team’s main point of contact in the global, cross-departmental initiative of building and maintaining a studio-wide data warehouse. Additionally, the Director will identify areas of opportunity for digital transformation, automating regular series reporting, and trend tracking

  • Manage the ingestion, integration, and analysis of large and complex data sets from various sources, including audience metrics, content performance, market trends, 1st party data

  • Identify and implement automation opportunities to streamline data process and improve efficiency in data collection, cleansing, analysis, and reporting for TV Production (tracking series performance, buyer commissions, etc)

  • Partner with data teams across SPT to design and deploy new data sources and dashboards

  • Collaborate closely with International Research and Data Solutions teams

  • Oversee data enrichment while partnering with IT and other cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity, security, and scalability of analytic solutions and data infrastructure

  • Source innovative data vendors & methodologies and maintain vendor relationships

  • Continuously investigate cutting edge methods & tools to drive SPT’s leadership in the marketplace

Analysis, Visualization & Thought Leadership

We are looking for a results-driven leader who can extract meaningful insights and trends from large data sets while serving as a trusted consultative partner and thought leader. This leader will also have a deep understanding of the entertainment competitive landscape, market trends, our buyers and network partners.

  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders, building trust to advocate for insight-driven solutions that can impact strategic landscape understanding, development, production, pitch & renewal of SPT series

  • Develop advanced forecasting and predictive modeling techniques to anticipate audience behavior, content performance, market trends, and whitespace analysis

  • Guide the development and implementation of data science solutions, including machine learning algorithms to unlock insights and drive innovation and forecasting in content development and support teams such as finance and corporate development

  • Partner with Finance and Corporate development teams on analyses to support of strategic initiatives, including acquisitions, partnerships, whitespace analysis, forecasting, and financial modeling

  • Create visually compelling dashboards and reports using data visualization tools like Tableau that provide stakeholders with actionable insights and key performance indicators that enable rapid decision making

  • Drive thought leadership across SPT producing publications/whitepapers/dashboards to provide internal stakeholders and talent with useful insights while building SPT’s reputation as an industry thought leader

  • Strong presentation skills, able to tell data narrative that are strategic, succint & visual, with a POV, to increase engagement & adoption of insights & data across the business

  • Work closely with stakeholders to proactively identify ways of applying data analysis to improve efficiency and inform decision making

  • Maintain a deep understanding of SPT Buyer and Network Partners (commissioning forecasts, market-wide genre trends, network audience segments, unique challenges/opportunities)

  • Develop strategic insights about our buyer strategies and trends and communicate those to creative teams and to senior leaders

Qualifications:

  • BS (preferably Masters) in engineering, data science, computer science, statistics, business analytics, or related field

  • 7+ years of experience in research strategy, business intelligence, or data science roles

  • Expert with Excel, SQL, and BI tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker, Power BI, Alteryx)

  • Working knowledge of data warehousing systems (Snowflake)

  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and deploying advanced analytics, including forecasting, predictive modeling and machine learning algorithms

  • Deep knowledge of Nielsen respondent level data, Luminate, Gracenote, Ampere data is a plus

  • Excellent analytical and program-solving skills

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiative in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders

  • Experience with UX Design
