A key member of the admissions team, an Admissions Counselor must be enthusiastic, highly motivated, and have the ability to articulate the values and objectives of a hands-on-experiential learning atmosphere at a small institution in order to attract, recruit, and admit students to UMN Crookston. This particular position will focus on the recruitment, processing and matriculation of online and transfer students in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Online & Transfer Recruitment. The individual selected will represent the University to the public providing high quality service to prospective students and collaborating with members of the campus to support students and advance efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive environment. This position also requires communicating with prospective students, making presentations, promoting UMN Crookston, and screening applications. Some travel will be required in this position, including visits to community colleges, speaking to prospective students in their college classroom, meeting with college advisors, or other collaboration visits. Generally, travel occurs within the state of Minnesota over a timeframe of three weeks in the fall semester and three weeks in the spring semester. Dues will also be performed in-house on the Crookston Campus. Responsibilities Working with the Assistant Director of Online & Transfer Recruitment, develop and implement a recruitment plan tailored to specific groups of prospective students to meet short-term and long-term enrollment goals. Conducts student recruitment and outreach activities on and off campus, as well as virtually. Communicates with applicants to assist them through the application process. Assists in the completion of pre-admission transcript evaluation for online transfer students. Responsible for the daily upkeep of records in the office's Slate CRM software. Monitor student behavior trends and adjust recruiting plan accordingly. Reviews applications and makes admissions decisions based on academic requirements and program choice compatibility. Engages in extensive communication, including email, phone calls, Zoom calls, and other means of communication, with applicants. Meet individual recruitment goals and objectives. Anticipates and responds to the needs of guests from diverse cultures and backgrounds. Participates in advancing UMN Crookston's efforts to build an inclusive and respectful campus community. Participates in training programs to develop professionally and become fully informed about the University and recruiting strategies. Maintains a working knowledge of current UMN Crookston degree programs, policies, and major content. Collaborates with other members of the Admissions office staff to foster a positive workplace and advance the work of all staff members. Will work with technology, such as CRM's (Slate), and student records databases. Performs other dues as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree plus at least two years of relevant experience, or Master's degree Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Valid driver's license Excellent public speaking and writing skills, and strong organizational skills Excellent customer service skills, phone and video-conferencing etiquette Excellent ability to interact and serve individuals from diverse backgrounds and age groups Ability to work effectively within a team environment Ability to travel as needed, including overnight stays and occasional evening and weekend hours Preferred Qualifications Experience working in college admissions, college counseling, or in related areas of higher education. Experience as undergraduate admissions int rn, student ambassador, student life or student activities leadership experience, or student volunteer experience will be considered. Experience working with socioeconomically diverse populations such as non-traditional, first-generation, and low-income individuals. Ability to work under pressure, in a team atmosphere, and with a minimum of direct supervision. Familiarity with the University and the surrounding communities desired. Experience organizing and planning programs and public presentations. Pay and Benefits Pay Range: The starting salary range for this position is $45,000+ depending on qualification and experience. This person will be required to live in an assigned on-campus apartment and serve in the on-duty rotation with other department staff.
