Payroll/Benefits Lead

Position Overview: The Payroll Lead and Benefit Specialist at our client is responsible for administrative duties related to payroll and benefit administration within the Human Resources Department. This role serves as the HRIS super user and reports directly to the Human Resources Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately and promptly process payroll and payroll-generated payments according to the payroll cycle.

  • Handle benefits administration, including health insurance, dental insurance, 403(b), and short- and long-term disability.

  • Collaborate with third-party administrators and employees to manage workers’ compensation functions.

  • Work with third-party administrators and employees to oversee Family Medical Leave (FML) functions.

  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal requirements for end-of-year payroll and benefits filings.

  • Analyze procedures and systems, making recommendations to enhance payroll and benefit administration operations.

  • Implement modifications and improvements to the HRIS system (UKG - UltiPro/Kronos) as needed.

  • Develop and maintain training manuals and programs related to payroll and benefit administration.

  • Investigate and resolve issues within the HRIS payroll processing system.

  • Review personnel and payroll change notices, making necessary adjustments.

  • Calculate gross wages and perform audits as required.

  • Prepare and submit summary sheets, verify check registers, and generate necessary reports.

  • Oversee and track professional certifications within the HRIS.

  • Assist employees and managers with HRIS questions, troubleshooting, and account issues.

  • Manage HRIS employee file updates, including document uploads, data imports, training, performance evaluations, and employee information.

  • Conduct audits of employee information and records as necessary.

  • Create and run reports from the HRIS platform on a scheduled or as-needed basis.

  • Act as a liaison between HR and other departments.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a payroll and benefits department.

  • Familiarity with state and federal payroll and tax rules and regulations.

  • Comfortability in UKG software.
