Pulaski County Group Home Direct Support Professional (DSP) in Crocker, Missouri
Working under the supervision of the House Manager and PM, the Direct Support Professional is responsible for assisting consumers with ADL (Activities of Daily Living) and IADL (Instrumental Activities of Daily Living). The staff must follow the outcomes and goals as listed in the ISP and document progress notes in the manner set forth by the Executive Director. Primary Tasks and Responsibilities Assist with ADs such as personal hygiene, including bathing, toileting, oral care, grooming, skin care, dressing and etc.
Assist with walking, including the use of gait belts, walkers and wheelchairs, when applicable.
Assist with PT Exercises, stretching, massages, hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, regular exercise, etc.
Assist with meal prep and feeding.
Assist with incidental household cleaning and laundry.
Assist with IADLs, such as shopping, banking, budgeting, using public transportation, social interaction, recreation, and leisure activities.
Assist with the accompaniment, cueing and minor problem-solving necessary to achieve increased independence, productivity and inclusion in the community.
Focus first on the person being served, and understand that your role in direct supports will require flexibility, creativity, and commitment.
Know and respect the values of the people supported and facilitate their expression of choices related to those values.
Provide advocacy when the individuals preferences, needs, or talents are neglected or overlooked.
Encourage growth and recognize the autonomy of the individuals receiving services while also being attentive reducing the risk of harm.
Develop relationships with the individuals that are respectful, based on mutual trust, and that maintains professional boundaries.
Address challenging behaviors proactively and respectfully, using methods outlines in the consumers ISP
Help individuals understand and express their rights and responsibilities.
Recognize that everyone has potential for lifelong learning and growth.
Assist the individuals to understand their options and the possible consequences of their options as they relate to their physical emotional health and wellbeing.
Be conscious of your own values and how they influence your professional decisions.
Maintain competency in your profession through continued learning your and being an active participant in staff meetings and trainings.
Assume responsibility and accountability for your actions and decisions.
Recognize the importance of modeling valued behaviors to co-workers, individuals receiving services, and the community at large.
Practice responsible work habits.
Being on time for work.
Completing all necessary documentation to assure compliance with all state and federal regulations. These may include but are not limited to: progress notes, MARS, time records, behavior reports, accident reports, seizure reports, etc.
Maintaining strict confidentiality for all consumer information, and facility operations.
Participate in ISP meetings and help advocate for the client and any goals they may have expressed to you on a daily basis that the team needs to be aware of.
Implement goals and objectives on ISPs.
