Job Title: Sr. Buyer

Job Description

This role is responsible for complete commodity management and is expected to deliver excellent organizational cost return and serviceability of goods managed. This position is overall responsible for the execution of strategy, maintaining best supplier alignment, managing total area spend, and meeting project and customer deadlines successfully. In addition, this position will support new product development, resulting in moderate cross-departmental touchpoints along with the more usual interdepartmental support of fellow planner colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Develop creative and innovative procurement solutions

  • Evaluate and negotiate supplier agreements for optimal performance, quality, and pricing

  • Lead sourcing efforts and strategies from vendor identification through vendor evaluation, selection, and implementation

  • Demonstrate material savings by achieving targeted cost savings within area of management

  • Perform cost analysis and assess financial risks

  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships

  • Manage and improve supplier quality by finding and eliminating supplier root cause

  • Ensure project and customer deadlines are met to budget and delivery requirements

  • Work cross-departmentally on new project development and/or high profit product

  • Maintain clear communications with internal stakeholders and suppliers

  • Ensure compliance with company guidelines and purchasing policies

  • Ability to travel domestically as well as internationally as necessary (up to 25%)

  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of buying experience with steel and plastic purchasing

  • Experience with sourcing and negotiating new suppliers

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related field preferred

  • Direct purchasing and/or supply chain experience with both domestic and international procurement

  • Raw material experience – steel and plastic

  • Experienced with project management fundamentals and process flow

  • New product management experience

  • Purchase order maintenance or material management experience

  • Financial acumen to develop sourcing financial models, including total cost of ownership models

  • Practical problem-solving approach to supply issues, business-minded, results-oriented, and a team player

  • Excellent creative thinking skills with emphasis on developing innovative solutions to solve procurement problems

  • Exceptional vendor relations management

  • Proficiency in ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office

  • Strong negotiation skills

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Maintain a valid Driver’s License and Passport, and abide by Corporate Fleet Policy

  • Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment testing

Work Environment

This position reports to the General Manager and is part of the HoTT Department. The location is in University Park, IL, with a hybrid work environment (3 days onsite, 2 days remote). During the training period, presence onsite is required when the specific manager is in. The work environment includes an indoor office/home setting with an open cubicle arrangement and occasional visits to shop or vendor locations. Working hours are 8-5, Monday through Friday, with flexibility for supplier visits (up to 25% travel).

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $93000.00 - $100000.00/hr.
