ROLE OVERVIEW

Thiess is seeking a Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic to support our mining team on our project site near Leadville, Colorado. The Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic will be responsible for safe repair of mobile equipment including mining excavator, loader, haul trucks, water truck, dozers and graders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform electrical, hydraulic and mechanical repairs
  • Preventative maintenance, in-shop and in the mine/pit
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot
  • As needed; weld steel components with welding equipment as specified by layouts, engineering drawings, work orders, and/or verbal instructions
  • Comply with all safety, health and environmental rules and procedures
  • While meeting safety standards, work with your team to maximize productivity and minimize downtime
  • Performs other duties as assigned

     

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Welding experience with mobile, heavy mining equipment
  • Hitachi Excavator (5600-7) or Liebherr Truck (T264) experience

     

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years heavy equipment mechanic experience in an open cut mining environment 
  • Experience working on :CAT 789, LIE T264, KOM 830E, HIT EX5600, LIE R996 size equipment and greater
  • Experience with the following; major component replacement, overhauls, and machine rebuilds in a mining environment
  • Mobile equipment diagnostics
  • Must be fluent in the English language

EDUCATION

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • MSHA Part 48 Certification (Thiess will provide training if needed)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to lift 50 pounds
  • Able to live and work at high altitudes (12,000 ft. elevation) for a week at a time
  • Able to work in extreme winter conditions with temperatures regularly below zero degrees Fahrenheit
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and climb ladders
  • Able to work for extended 12-hour shifts
  • Can work night shifts (5:30 p.m. -- 5:30 a.m.) seven days at a time and properly manage fatigue
  • No auditory or visual impairments restricting the ability to see distances while driving and clearly discern auditory and visual alerts/alarms (not including color blindness)
  • Quick response/reaction times Arm-hand steadiness and manual dexterity

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • All necessary tools will be provided
  • Work schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off, rotating 12-hour shifts both days and nights
  • Fly-in, fly-out opportunities for those who live out-of-state (travel expenses paid), drive-in, drive-out opportunities for those who live in-state (travel reimbursement)
  • Working at high elevation with cold, snowy conditions during winter months
  • Hotel and shuttle accommodations provided, as well as per diem
