SCICAP Corydon Head Start Teacher in CORYDON, Iowa
SCICAP Early Childhood Program is seeking a professional candidate to serve as a classroom teacher in our Corydon Head Start location. The Head Start Teacher, in partnership with the assistant teachers, is responsible for the planning, implementation and coordination of a comprehensive education program. This position will ensure that the classroom activities and environment are developmentally appropriate, meet the individual needs of each child, and reflect the agencys philosophy and curriculum. The teaching team (Lead Teacher and Teacher Assistants) provide a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment with an emphasis on social and emotional growth. The teaching staff are responsible for implementing all program requirements in adherence to performance and outcome standards as prescribed by funding and model requirements. This position consists of working directly with children and families with time spent completing required documentation.
Essential Duties:
- Provide an educational environment that promotes school readiness goals, as well as social-emotional growth
- Implementing Creative Curriculum with Fidelity
- Lesson Plans, Mighty Minutes, Family Piece, etc.
- Implementing PBIS/Conscious Discipline in the classroom with fidelity

``` - Start 45-day Brigance within the first 30 days - Submit lessons plan on time (which means, submit it the Monday before you plan to implement the lesson plan) - Add Individualized Child Goals - Add PBIS/Conscious Discipline - Add reading before/during/after questions-make sure you are reading multiple books a day - Add fire/storm drills/community member activities - Enter all communication into Child Plus in a timely manner - Communicate with Disabilities Specialist any time there is a concern that may require a referral - Get all appropriate signed consent forms to Disabilities Specialist so they can make the referral - Complete two home visits and two parent/teacher conferences, at a minimum - Become acquainted with each individual child; identify his/her strengths and needs in order to contribute to his/her development - Make necessary screening/referrals of children to proper resources - Supervise and have meaningful conversations during meal times - Role model tooth brushing with the children, one time daily - Role model swishing with the children, one time daily - Be aware and alert for Health and Safety issues at all times - Provide and direct all daily classroom activities to ensure children are school ready - Attend on-site staff meetings
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- No personal record regarding child abuse, sexual abuse or neglect
- Current physical required for start of employment and then every three years
- Must pass criminal record check to be employed (DCI)
- Required fingerprinting every four years
Required Education and Experience:
- Requires current Preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) credential and approved waiver from Head Start Regional Office.
- Must be enrolled in a program leading to associates or bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education or in a related field with coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education.
