This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The mission of the CCAD is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components. Responsibilities Perform manufacturing of parts and complete items of equipment from raw stock of different kinds of metals and metal alloys and other materials. Perform machining work required in the manufacture of castings, forging, weldments and other fabrications. Uses precision tools as necessary to determine and then to reproduce proper dimensions, radii, and angles to be cut, ground or machined. Fabricate parts and repairs equipment to specifications precise fit or scale from instructions, drawings, blueprints, or item samples. Operate machine or power and hand tools. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG-05: Ability to do the work of a Machinist without more than normal supervision. Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to work safely in a shop environment. Ability to learn the use of various tools and equipment and the routing aspects of mechanical work. Work under closer than normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG-08: The ability to perform common tasks associated with a Machinist. Use various standard machine attachments such as rotary tables, magnetic chucks, taper attachments, and universal milling attachments; and select proper cutting tools according to the type of metal being machined and correct machine feeds and speeds necessary to perform the required operation. Work under supervision of a work leader or journey level employee who reviews my work for completion.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires standing, stooping, bending and reaching; frequent handling of objects weighing up to 35 pounds; however, hoists, hand trucks, lifts and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. WORKING CONDITIONS: Most work is performed inside in a well lighted, heated, and ventilated area. Work area is normally noisy and the wearing of ear plugs or muffs may be required. There is exposure to flying metal chips, abrasive particles and hot metal, and skin irritations from contact with coolants, lubricants, solvents and abrasives. There is danger of injury to fingers and hands from cutting tools, grinding wheels, moving machine parts and rotating work pieces. There is a requirement for wearing of safety glasses or goggles, safety shoes, and other protective devices. These working conditions have been considered in the evaluation process. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
