TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E281 Transportation Engineer II, III, IV-Traffic in Corpus Christi, Texas

Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer II:Oversees and/or performs traffic engineering studies to recommend solutions for high accident locations, to warranttraffic signals and speed zones and to determine capacity and channelization of the highways.Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates andcontracts.Interprets manuals and required guidelines for traffic operations.Meets with law enforcement agencies and/or city officials to discuss traffic problems and possible solutions.Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications Estimates (PSE) submission, special specifications or special provisions.Provides design engineering support for districts in project development.Reviews and revises schematics, PSE, project designs, shop drawings and field changes for traffic control devices, signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, electrical distribution and roadway lighting and traffic management systems.Reviews traffic engineering studies, warranting of traffic signals and speed zones.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer III:In addition to the abovePerforms advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contractsPerforms advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies.Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.Assists in recommending major maintenance and betterment programs to the district staff.Assists in utilization of available funds to improve and install traffic control devices.Reviews and assists districts with the planning, design of PSE, and the letting for traffic management systems.Oversees and/or monitors Community Traffic Safety Programs, activities involving preparation of the District Highway Safety Plan and/or the Traffic Safety Office.Trains engineering staff.Transportation Engineer IV:In addition to the abovePerforms highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans,specifications, estimates and contracts.Performs highly advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies.Serves as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work.Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for highly complex transportation projects.Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.Investigates and responds to public complaints on traffic signals, signs, railroad crossings, pavement markings, traffic management systems or other traffic related items.Oversees and/or performs traffic engineering studies to recommend solutions for high accident locations, to warrant traffic signals and speed zones and to determine capacity and channelization of the highways.Coordinates on design schematics, assists with capacity and level of service studies and reviews in-house and consultant traffic control/traffic management/intelligent transportation systems (ITS) plans and projects.Provides technical assistance for the development of rural ITS/traffic management corridors.Provides technical expertise in planning, coordinating, maintaining and oper ting traffic management systems.Reviews and assists districts with the planning, design of PSE, and the letting for traffic management systems.Reviews and revises schematics, PSE, project designs, shop drawings and field changes for traffic control devices, signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, electrical distribution and roadway lighting and traffic management systems.Reviews traffic engineering studies, warranting of traffic signals and speed zones.Trains engineering staff.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
