TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E280 Transportation Engineer I, II or III - Construction in Corpus Christi, Texas

Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer IActs as consultant to staff engineers to coordinate construction operations.Analyzes schedule trends, determines risks and supports management in evaluating options for corrective actions for routine projects.Assists in overseeing construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devise with Area Engineers.Assists in overseeing contracts, issuing work orders and monitoring construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress onconstruction projects.Assists in overseeing the external Equal Employment Opportunity program.Monitors, evaluates, analyzes and makes recommendations on formal contractor claims, approval for use of consultant and/or to highwaycontracts.Represents the district at various meetings.Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors.Reviews change orders, supplemental agreements, memorandum agreements and extra work orders; reviews monthly and final estimates prior to submittal.Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer IIIn addition to the responsibilities for the Transportation Engineer I:Acts in an advisory capacity on administrative, technical, regulatory and engineering aspects of transportation.Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.Monitors contractorsandrsquo; compliance with plans and specifications.Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors.Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for transportation projects. Transportation Engineer IIIIn addition to the responsibilities for the Transportation Engineer I, II:Evaluates and makes recommendations for developing, monitoring, and updating integrated project plans and schedules so that projects may beexecuted in the most efficient and effective manner possible.Analyzes schedule trends, determines risks and recommends options to management for corrective action for complex projects.Assists Project Managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines for complex projects.Recommends practices and procedures for Critical Path Method scheduling, budgeting, resourcing and baseline management.May serve as the Districtandrsquo;s Environmental Quality Coordinator.
