Purpose of Position
This purpose of this position is to drive product definition, technology development and roadmaps for coatings in Gorilla Glass business, delivering financial growth objectives
Increase “Corning” content
Including ARC, DX family, and new coated substrates product offerings and ensuring strong coating capabilities in Gorilla business
Major Responsibilities
Ensure technical capabilities in place internally and at CMs to deliver on business objectives
Includes coating process, metrology, integration with finishing process
Champion new technical capabilities to enable product development and longer term roadmap
Including integration with Thin FIlms and Coating capability team, CTCK Coating COE
Focus on cost, quality, performance / capability
Apply judgment to identify and pursue technologies and establish IP positions
For projects in portfolio:
Define the value prop and roadmap – what matters, when and why
Articulate technology roadmap to meet business objectives, enable value prop
Deliver cost, schedule and technical performance; drive key cost and value factors
Identify and champion needed capability / capacity / capital investments
Drive innovations through the value chain, as required
Articulate and probe foundational assumptions; set clear criteria for stop, transition to “business operations” or return to Research
Ensure and align appropriate resources (people, money, assets, etc.)
Establish / strengthen market leading IP positions
Understand and address competitive position
Leverage the technical capabilities of the corporation (research, development, engineering, manufacturing) for successful delivery of projects
For new opportunities: – Apply judgment to identify and pursue new applications, new technologies with focus on MCE – Align with Research on next gen opportunities
Qualifications/Education Required:
Master’s degree in engineering or materials Desired: PhD in technology field
5+ years of experience in high-tech, OEM, or materials industry
Technical experience in optical thin films coating (material, process, design) Leadership experience
Experience in new product / new process development
Experience in optical thin film coating
Experience in coating process (PVD, sputtering – metal mode, etc.)
Experience in developing, securing IP
Desired skills
Strong technology skills
Effective communicator
Ability to influence and execute with RD&E
Ability to establish and maintain strong working technical relationships
Ability to prioritize and drive key objectives
Ability to handle high stress environment
Strong analytical skills

The range for this position is $139,303.00 - $191,542.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
