The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Special Procedures Technologist 2 with Lennar Foundation Medical Center in Coral Gables, Florida.

The Special Procedures Technologist 2 assists with the day-to-day operations of interventional radiology and during complex procedures through the operation of radiographic equipment to obtain highest quality diagnostic images with the least amount of radiation exposure The Special Procedures Technologist 2 provides various imaging services to assist interventional physicians in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures. The incumbent maintains efficient workflow of the section and promotes UCARE goals to achieve the highest quality care and customer service.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Verifies the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth.

  • Corroborates patient's clinical history and ensures information is documented and available for use.

  • Assist with patient interviews before a procedure and documents all relevant information.

  • Ensures that the attending radiologist obtains the proper informed consent.

  • Prepares the patient for procedures to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.

  • Notifies appropriate person of any change(s) in patients’ status.

  • Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures and strictly practices aseptic technique.

  • Assists the radiologist throughout procedures with all the necessary supplies.

  • Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.

  • Positions the patient for the examination and obtains good technical quality scout film of the area before starting procedures.

  • Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during the procedure.

  • Initiates life support measures for patients and assists in cardiopulmonary resuscitation during medical emergencies.

  • Maintains working knowledge of all patient monitoring devices.

  • Provides patient education in collaboration with other department staff.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:

Associate degree or equivalent

Certification and Licensing:

Certification in relevant specialty or field

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Department Specific Functions

Case Preparation and Implementation:

Demonstrates ability to implement principles of aseptic technique in a variety of circumstances and in accordance with established Aseptic Technique policy and procedure. Prepares sterile areas in an organized, timely and efficient manner. Maintains appropriate, professional interpersonal relationships as observed by supervisory personnel. The technologist must demonstrate knowledge of the principle of growth and development of the life span and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient’s age-specific needs. Performs initial and all subsequent sponge, needle/sharps, and instrument counts according to established policy and procedure. Anticipates needs of physicians as evidenced by advance knowledge and preparation of pertinent instrumentation and/or supplies. Exhibits quick, efficient, and purposeful manual in the preparation and passing of sterile instruments and/or supplies. Cares for and identifies all specimens according to established policy and procedure. Accurately identifies and labels all medications used on the sterile field as evidenced by Adherence to established policy and procedure. At the completion of the procedure, demonstrate knowledge of accountability for and decontamination of soiled instruments as evidence by adherence to established protocol. Assists, as necessary, with activities related to the cleaning of procedure rooms and ancillary areas according to established Sanitation Policy and Procedure. Participates in hospital risk management program by reporting all unusual occurrences according to policy. Demonstrates safe and correct restraint procedures in accordance with hospital policy. Attends departmental and / or unit-based meetings or acknowledges review of note/ minutes on a weekly basis. Adheres to established policy/procedure on Sanitation, Infection Control and Standard Precautions in the performance of assigned responsibilities. Initiates and/or assists with daily restocking and maintenance of assigned procedure rooms in a timely and efficient manner. Receptive to constructive criticism and responds in a positive manner as observed by supervisory personnel. Demonstrates knowledge of & observes decontamination principles as evidenced by adherence to established protocol. Meets expectation of department calls & overtime responsibilities. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned. Comply with the employee Code of Ethics and Standards of Behavior. Attend mandatory educational programs and annual in-services. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Leadership:

Recognizes & is an advocate of team concept. Adheres to HIPPA compliance and maintains patient confidentiality. Exhibits an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of team members and recognizes individuals for their contributions. Contributes to the enhancement of group effectiveness by enhancing information, collaborating with the other team members, and providing constructive feedback. Assist in providing unit-based education and in-services of chosen surgical specialties. Utilizes supplies & equipment judiciously. Acts as preceptors for special procedure technologists & other ancillary personnel as assigned. Serves as active member of the department or ancillary personnel and assigned hospital committee.
