University of Miami Research Assistant 2 - Biology in Coral Gables, Florida

The Department of Biology is interested in hiring a Research Assistant who will support department initiatives pertaining to the maintenance and operations of our research and teaching facilities. These projects include:

  • Maintaining shared research equipment (e.g., autoclaves, centrifuges) and coordinating service visits as needed

  • Collecting and disposing of biological waste from teaching laboratories

  • Participating in laboratory and office turnover projects

  • Overseeing the proper storage and disposal of chemical waste produced in teaching laboratories

  • Cataloguing and maintaining inventories of research equipment and chemical reagents

  • Preparing posters, flyers, handouts, etc., for display in the teaching laboratories

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent required

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

  • Commitment to the University’s core values.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
