Lecturer, Jazz Voice
The University of Miami Frost School of Music is accepting applications for a Full-Time Lecturer in Voice for the Studio Music and Jazz Vocal Performance program beginning in the Fall 2024 term. The salary is competitive. The successful candidate will have a strong record of accomplishment and demonstrated vocal performance experience in jazz and contemporary /popular music styles. Candidate will have significant experience teaching jazz and contemporary/popular voice and experience teaching/directing ensembles and small groups in a university music school or conservatory context.
Principal duties include teaching voice in the Jazz Vocal Performance program; teaching jazz vocal studio class, teaching/directing a small or large ensemble. Required qualifications: Experience teaching voice lessons which include an emphasis on vocal technique, vocal health, interpretation and style with a focus on jazz and contemporary/popular music, among other genres.
Substantive national and/or international credits in the music industry and demonstrated expertise in jazz performance.
Demonstrated experience with microphone technique and live sound reinforcement.
Familiarity with music notation software.
Doctoral degree in music is preferred. However, candidates with exceptional professional and/or academic credentials will also be considered.
Desired qualifications:
Experience teaching/directing large jazz vocal ensembles and small jazz combos. Demonstrated knowledge jazz piano, harmony, improvisation as well as contemporary/popular music vernacular.
Knowledge with Digital Audio Workstations.
