University of Miami Access Control Technician 2 (Coral Gables campus) in Coral Gables, Florida

The Locksmith 2 inspects, repairs, installs, modifies, and maintains access/locking systems, circuits, and equipment to ensure that facility access operations run smoothly and uninterrupted.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Installs, repairs, builds, and provides services to mechanical or electrical locking devices.

  • Disassembles locks and replaces tumblers, springs, and other parts.

  • Cuts new or duplicate keys and opens locked doors without keys.

  • Maintains a key control system, making changes when appropriate.

  • Reports, verifies, and modifies electronic access properties and rights using computerized access control systems.

  • Preserves the computerized database and identification system up-to-date, and secures facility locking systems.

  • Performs carpentry work in connection with lock work.

  • Performs inspection of door hardware devices to ensure proper assembly and operation.

  • Ensures performance of preventive maintenance program functions.

  • Makes estimates and completes work within the costs estimated.

  • Keeps records of work performed throughout the facilities.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Certification and Licensing:

Certification in relevant specialty or field required or; valid license from Miami Dade County required or; Associates in relevant field required. Valid Florida Driver’s License.

Experience:

Minimum 4 years of relevant experience

Department Specific Functions

  • Position is considered to be essential personnel and must be able to perform outside normal working hours to include shift work, respond to after hour emergencies, on-call, call-backs, holiday coverages, weekends, or as required for the operational needs of the University.

  • Capably administrates all ONITY/CBORD/KEYTRAK electronic access updates, and solution for Onity/CBORD electronic access-related issues for the Gables Campus.

  • Basic knowledge of low voltage to troubleshoot access-related issues.

  • Makes keys for padlocks, doors, cabinets, lockers, and desks selecting blanks, cutting and fitting keys locks.

  • Installs, maintains, adjusts, services and resets all types of locks and locking equipment. Adjusts and installs door closures and hinges.

  • Unlocks locks when keys are lost or stolen. Repairs and renovates locks on periodic basis or as needed.

  • Assist with special projects; and keep detailed records of work performed.

  • This position requires initiative, judgment, and solid communication skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to effectively handle conflict resolution and problem solving.

  • Must have excellent people skills in order to build positive relationship with staff, customers and stakeholders.

  • Must have good leadership skills “Leads by Example”.

  • Must be able to multi-task with strong prioritization, scheduling and delegation abilities.

  • Must have excellent organizational skills.

  • This position requires PC equipment knowledge, to include the TMA work order management system, Outlook, MS Office Word, Excel and programs required to maintain schedules of all equipment being serviced.

  • Ability to work in a team environment as directed by the Facilities & Operations management team to provide a customer-oriented service group to meet the changing needs of the University environment.

  • Possess a valid Florida driver’s license, with a good driving record and meet the insurance requirements of the University of Miami.

  • This position may be required to participate in the University’s National Incident Management System (NIMS).
