Job Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating all environmental compliance programs at Dominion Energy South Carolina’s (DESC) Cope Generating Plant in Cope SC.  Core job functions include maintenance and improvement of programs to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permits, as well as conformance with corporate policies and procedures.  There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's education, experience, knowledge skills, and abilities.

Associate Environmental Compliance Coordinator

  • Assisting with sampling, profiling, and managing the plant’s hazardous, non-hazardous, and Universal waste.

  • Gathering necessary information to complete for review required environmental regulatory and internal inspections and reports.

  • Assist in the development and enhancement of training, inspection, and compliance processes to improve environmental performance.

  • Assist during internal and external regulatory compliance inspections and audits.

  • Assist with preparation of root cause analysis of environmental events to improve performance.

  • Tracking and ensuring regulatory deadlines are met.

  • This position is subject to being called out to support the plant in environmental emergencies, during outages, and is subject to after hours, weekend, and holiday work outdoors and in an industrial environment during these events.

Environmental Compliance Coordinator

  • Sampling, profiling, and managing the plant’s hazardous, non-hazardous, and Universal waste.

  • Completing or submitting for review required environmental regulatory and internal inspections and reports.

  • Assisting in the development and enhancement of training, inspection, and compliance processes to improve environmental performance.

  • Serving as the environmental point of contact during internal and external regulatory compliance inspections and audits.

  • Preparing root cause analysis of environmental events to improve performance.

  • This position is subject to being called out to support the plant in environmental emergencies and during outages, and is subject to after hours, weekend, and holiday work outdoors and in an industrial environment during these events.

Senior Environmental Compliance Coordinator

  • Serving as the subject matter expert for the plant’s permits and compliance programs related to National Pollution Discharge Elimination Site (NPDES), Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), drinking water, air, landfills, and stormwater.

  • Serving as the subject matter expert for the plant’s hazardous, non-hazardous, and Universal waste.

  • Developing and enhancing training, inspection, and compliance training and processes to improve environmental performance.

  • Serving as the environmental subject matter expert during internal and external regulatory compliance inspections and audits.

  • Leading teams in performing root cause analysis of environmental events.

  • This position is subject to being called out to support the plant in environmental emergencies and during outages, and is subject to after hours, weekend, and holiday work outdoors and in an industrial environment during these events.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

Associate Environmental Compliance Coordinator

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 0-2 years of relevant experience, OR

  • Associate's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience OR

  • High School diploma and at least 4 years of experience in a related field.

Environmental Compliance Coordinator:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of related experience OR

  • Associate's degree and at least 4 years of relevant experience OR

  • High School diploma and at least 6 years of experience in a related field.

  • Knowledge of the plant’s permits and compliance programs of the plant’s permits and compliance programs related to National Pollution Discharge Elimination Site (NPDES), Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), drinking water, air, landfill, and stormwater.

Senior Environmental Compliance Coordinator:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of related experience OR

  • Associate's degree and at least 7 years of relevant experience OR

  • High School diploma and at least 9 years of experience in a related field.

  • Working knowledge of the plant’s permits and compliance programs of the plant’s permits and compliance programs related to National Pollution Discharge Elimination Site (NPDES), Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), drinking water, air, landfill, and stormwater.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for all levels:

  • A valid driver’s license and proficiency in the use of business computer applications to include Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint) is required.  

  • The successful candidate must possess strong data analysis and technical writing skills, strong interpersonal skills, strong decision-making skills, and well developed organizational skills.  

  • The successful candidate must be able to prioritize tasks effectively and contribute to the success of the organization collaboratively and individually as needs dictate.

Preferred Qualifications for ECC:

  • Compliance experience in an industrial setting

  • Familiarity with Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act (CWA), and Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)

Preferred Qualifications for Senior ECC:

  • Compliance experience in an industrial setting

  • Multimedia compliance experience in an industrial setting.

  • Regulatory compliance program development/coordination, familiarity with Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act (CWA), and Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) analytical methods, familiarity with CWA/NPDES toxicity investigations and issues, and a practical understanding of drinking water and wastewater treatment technologies and applications.

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor's
