Bassett Healthcare Occupational Health Services Technician I in Cooperstown, New York

What you'll do The Occupational Health Services Technician I supports the occupational health services program (HealthWorks service delivery and firefighter/EMS evaluations) through interdisciplinary teamwork, in accordance with established protocols. Under the direction of the NYCAMH Medical Director and general supervision of the HealthWorks Supervisor and NYCAMH Manager, this position contributes to the maintenance of healthy and safe workers. Provides clinical services to employees, firefighters and EMS personnel needed to address occupational health concerns. Provides a variety of occupational health services for regional businesses and fire departments. Assures the quality of off-site health screening services for work sites and other community sites. Collects and maintains confidential reports and files and provides data requested by the Manager, NYCAMH Ag Group and NYCAMH Director. Applies proven educational techniques to provide counseling and to communicate health risks in a culturally sensitive manner for health screening participants. Clinical/Technical Responsibilities: Provides for the collection of all biometric measurements in clinic and at screening events and adheres to all applicable requirements established under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) and Bassett Healthcare's clinical laboratory guidelines, as well as NIOSH approved spirometry, and CAOHC. Perform quality control testing and ensure timely equipment calibration with documentation consistent with good laboratory practice. Act as health educator to provide reliable verbal and printed information about risk factors for all screening participants. Ensure a private, convenient screening site protecting against biohazards. Collect data required for ongoing evaluation of program effectiveness. Collect and maintain accurate individual and group screening data. Collect and maintain accurate urine drug and breath alcohol screening data. Operational/Procedural Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive delivery of clinical screenings and educational events for community groups and businesses throughout the Bassett regional service area. Perform clinical screenings using appropriate equipment and established protocols; develop new approaches and design new procedures based on needs, drawing from current literature or own innovation, demonstrating a clear understanding of the scientific objectives of program. Assure quality of all screening protocols, individual results and group reports. Maintain documentation required to ensure accurate, precise test results. Maintain equipment inventory and preventive maintenance log. Assist in all scheduling and other logistical concerns for the smooth provision of each screening event. Perform all QC testing and screening to maintain analytic quality and compliance with currently accepted standards for field-testing. Provide additional support, as needed for other HealthWorks activities, including firefighter screenings, urine drug collection and hearing conservation and respiratory protection programs. Duplicate correspondence and other printed material. Update and maintain database of test results, running queries & client reports. Provide for the care and maintenance of program equipment and supplies. Arrange for and oversee repairs. Responsibilities for Relationships: Maintains professional working relationships with all collaborators, partners, stakeholders, and program participants. Program participants: establish a credible, professional and therapeutic relationship as required by the program service delivery model. External customers: maintain professional working relationships with the business community, public health officials and the lay public. Internal customers: maintain professional working relationships with all Bassett staff and practitioners. Co-workers: maintain good working relationships with other departments to support the required work. Leadership role: function in a professional, courteous manner as a representative of Bassett Healthcare. Assists supervisor in planning and development of project work, identifying priorities. (OSHT II) Mentors newer or less proficient staff. (OSHT II) Takes a lead role in interacting with customers and potential customers. Information Responsibilities: Uses phone, postal and electronic forms of communication to maintain contact with many and varied community members. Maintain evidence of professional development by continuing education, participation in department seminars, etc. Attend professional meetings, workshops and courses. Attend staff meetings and in-service training sessions as required. Develop specialized skills as required for project. (OSHT II) Provides technical training and/or acts as a resource for departmental staff onsite and at various screening events as needed for: Pulmonary function testing-is able to troubleshoot minor mechanical malfunctions and ensure adequate tests are done for interpretation by MD. (OSHT II) Provides technical training and/or acts as a resource for departmental staff onsite and at various screening events as needed for: Audiometry-knowledgeable about equipment and able to troubleshoot minor equipment issues. (OSHT II) Provides technical training and/or acts as a resource for departmental staff onsite and at various screening events as needed for: Urine drug collection-as Certified Collector is able to advise other staff with regards to questions or issues with regards to collection process. (OSHT II) Provides technical training and/or acts as a resource for departmental staff onsite and at various screening events as needed for: BAT's-able to support staff with regards to equipment calibration and maintenance. What we need from you Education: High School Diploma or GED, preferred Experience: Experience with personal computers and software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, and databases), preferred. Health promotion/disease prevention experience, preferred Training to acquire expertise in clinical skills, techniques and systems aimed at enhancing the health and safety of employees, firefighters and emergency medical services personnel, required Considerable experience with previous laboratory work and/or community/public health work will be considered Skills: Attention to Detail Computer Skills Communication Interacting with People Maintain Files Self-Motivated Physical Requirements: Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. Pay Range Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards.
