Job Summary

Employees in this class are under the general direction of the Electric Department Director. The position is responsible for the coordination of all Geographical Information System functions for the department, including updates to the GIS database and access via the network or web.

Examples of work performed: maintains the department's GIS system hardware and software; troubleshoots G IS system problems; provides GIS related technical support to Department staff; updates GIS database, including correcting e1rnrs and entering new data, restructuring tables, and setting up daily maintenance; collects GPS data in the field and imports into GIS database; sets up/maintains web maps and network access to GIS mapping; maintains plotter; creates maps as requested; researches possible GIS software for application to the Department. May supervise GIS interns. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Abilities

Extensive knowledge of computer hardware and software, including ArcGIS and Arc SDE. Knowledge of SQL and ArcGIS server.

Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.

Ability to operate handheld GPS device.

Knowledge of Windows, MS Office, and other commonly used software.

Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective relationship with the public and other employees

Qualifications

The required knowledge, skill, and abilities to satisfactorily perform job duties are normally acquired through attainment of a one-year certificate from college or technical school plus two to three years of AutoCAD, G I S, and drafting related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license.

Essential Functions

Work requires incumbent to occasionally stand or walk and frequently sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Is required to occasionally reach with arms and hands. Regularly must talk and hear. Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Work environment is typically moderately noisy (business office, light traffic) but occasionally is loud when outside collecting data near construction equipment. Full Time Benefits Summary:
