Surgery Research Fellow - Olutoye Lab Requisition ID 2024-48714 Category Research Overview Our laboratory provides a rich experience in both basic and clinical research for a two-year research fellowship. Our investigative interests are broad and include developing animal models to study fetal anomalies and testing new innovative therapies to correct those anomalies in utero. Additionally, we study effects of anesthesia on the fetus, early predictors and preventative therapies of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), various congenital anomalies, and wound healing. Clinically we examine the outcomes of congenital anomalies such as congenital diaphragmatic hernia, sacrococcygeal teratoma, omphalocele, and congenital lung masses. Fellows in our laboratory can engage in a wide variety of basic science and clinical research projects. There is the opportunity to maintain surgical skills, by performing large animal surgery (pigs and sheep) as well as microsurgery. Responsibilities Performing animal surgeries Design and conduct scientific experiments to obtain data Participate in clinical research and IRB protocols Write and publish scientific manuscripts and journals Contribute to grant submissions for external funding Qualifications MD or DO and currently part of a Surgery Training Program Desire to pursue a career in biomedical research, and knowledge of the research process. Necessary technical skills in the appropriate area of research. Experience with large animal surgeries Ability to do technical writing, and good communication skills.
