Position Summary:
Performs employee learning and development work assuring new and existing operators and transportation supervisors have the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and efficiently perform their duties as it relates to providing excellent customer service to the public and passengers. Responsible for training preparation including, logistics, materials, scheduling and tracking. Performs cross-functional training assignments to meet business needs.

This Position is Responsible For:
Provides training for new and existing bus operators on the daily operation of all areas of the transit system, ensuring compliance with city, local, state, and federal laws governing transit services.
Leads, evaluates, and coaches assigned learners, achieving maximum productivity and high employee morale.
Monitors operator performance through observation of live service. Provides verbal and/or written feedback and coaching through written and verbal coaching sessions.
Partners with the Talent and Engagement team to conduct briefing meetings and interviews for potential employees.
Assists in the development of new and revised learning and development programs for bus operators, supervisors and operations employees;
Facilitates new student bus operator training in all areas of Transportation; both instructor led and on-the-road, COTA customer service techniques, CDL test preparation, emergency procedures, ADA, pre-trip inspections, safe-driving methods and transportation technology including CAD/AVL and fare box operation; tracks progress of all students;
Enforces COTA policies, procedures, and employee attendance. Initiates discipline procedures through the application of the union contract/policy manual as it pertains to bus operations activities. Provides documentation to the respective transportation leader as required;
Supervises and provides leadership for their new operators. Trains, develops, and appraises learners effectively. Ensures the organization meets its EEO responsibilities by assisting in identifying problem areas, participating in local minority organizations, participating in review of complaints alleging discrimination, and supporting career counseling for employees. Takes corrective action as necessary, on a timely basis, and in accordance with policy; and
Must be willing to work any shift and day as required.
At Minimum You'll Need:
Requires a High School Diploma or GED, and four (4) years of supervisory, coaching, mentoring, and/or transportation experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in business or public administration. An Associate's Degree preferred.
Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Airbrake & Passenger endorsements; and
Must have the ability to obtain TSI certification, if applicable.
