IGM Senior Research Program Manager - Kozel Lab Requisition ID 2024-48339 Category Research Overview The senior program manager is responsible for directing the overarching operations of the Kozel Lab (Laboratory of Vascular and Matrix Genetics , LVMG) animal program as well as performing bench-based translational research. This position works with investigators and lab staff to implement and develop best research practices, manage funding, foster efficient and productive relationships with other groups, and interface with multiple NCH/RI departments/cores to coordinate efficient research efforts. Responsibilities Specific activities performed under this role: Establish the Kozel lab animal research program with a focus on small animal pre-clinical therapeutics and building collaborations to enable future development of larger model animal systems. Develop and monitor animal studies protocols to ensure animal welfare during scientific procedures. Serve as primary liaison between the laboratory and the Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC). Perform and teach techniques including small animal advanced dissection, in-vivo microsurgical/physiology techniques (including but not limited to: indwelling catheter/pump placement for hemodynamic measures and drug delivery), ex-vivo vascular physiology (pressure and wire myography), and various imaging modalities (uCT, MRI, and echo). Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various molecular, cellular, image, and 'omic modalities. Develop data management pipelines. Maintain accurate experimental records both in laboratory notebooks and digitally. As a member of the LVMG leadership team, the senior program manager is aware of the literature and involved in identifying new avenues for collaboration and program growth. Collaborate with clinical team members in the initiation of human studies research at NCH. Facilitate the transfer of human studies protocol data and samples from NIH. Work with the PI and clinical team members to initiate new IRB protocols. Develop SOPs for specimen collection, processing, and storage. Perform QA/QC as needed to assure system/sample integrity. Oversee the development of new databases and specimen storage systems to collect and store human samples and data. With study coordinators, monitor data quality and ensure systems are maintained for project success. Perform internal audits of regulatory data and specimens. Program Management: Hiring, onboarding, training, supervising, mentoring, and evaluating translational research staff and trainees. Design and implement opportunities for professional growth to ensure staff have exposure to various scientific career paths and learning opportunities. Oversee initial lab setup and work with the lab manager to coordinate ongoing purchasing and laboratory safety measures. Facilitate data and material transfer agreements with the tech transfer office. Monitor financial and other project resources in collaboration with PI's Serve as a key representative of the LVMG program and are engaged in bidirectional communication with the central LVMG infrastructure components. Works with Principal Investigators to establish ambitious yet achievable project deadlines and ensure deliverables are met. Prepare reports and other products to address inquiries and report progress. Serve as the lead day to day contact for translational research trainees and junior staff. Scientific results dissemination, collaboration, and procurement of funding: Prepare data and draft of manuscripts for scientific publication. Respond to reviewer concerns as needed. Utilize statistical and graphical packages to generate publication worthy figures and graphical abstracts Prepare slides and written materials for group meetings, posters and oral presentations
