Worthington Cylinder Corporation Buyer 1 in Columbus, Ohio

Source, select, negotiate, and approve the contract award for commodity purchases or services as well as spot buy of non-stock items for location requirements.  Provide information to internal customers for pricing proposals.  Resolve specification issues prior to quoting process.  Obtain and analyze quotes from suppliers and calculate the total cost of ownership.  Work with New Product Development teams to identify new suppliers and quote for new products.  Assess and identify new suppliers for existing and new products domestically and internationally.  Achieve cost savings goals and deliver low-cost alternatives for sourcing of products and services to meet business demands.  Manage inventory by reviewing requirements, entering purchase orders, and changing purchase orders as required.  Determine the need for expediting, follow up on late orders and monitor delivery performance taking corrective action as needed.  Reporting activities to include annual cost saving and cost avoidance, weekly on time delivery status and quality concerns from the plant.  Complete corporate program compliance review and reconciliation of P-Card expenditures for corporate charges.  Resolve accounting discrepancies and process supplier returns/rejections.  Initiate purchase parts approval process (PPAP) per standard operation procedures.  Lead or supervise temporary personal purchasing assistants or interns.  Travel Requirements: 20% travel required (domestic and international).  Telecommuting: Hybrid - 3 days in office.

 

This position requires a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field, plus 2 years of experience as a Buyer, Purchaser, or a closely related role.  Additionally, the applicant must have professional experience with: 1) International shipping and storage guidelines; 2) Working with cross-functional partners in transportation and regulatory; 3) Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS codes) and international import requirements; 4) Application of purchasing cost reduction methods; and 5) Utilizing purchasing terminology and practices including: RFQ, lead time, delivery date, safety stock, BOM, BOL, INCOTERMS, LCL, LTL, MRO, MOQ, OEM, PDQ, SLA, SKU, GTIN, UPC.
