Job Description

The purpose of this job is to be a visible presence in City parks and trails with a goal of providing safety and security to all visitors. Performs law enforcement work involving prevention, detection, and investigation of criminal acts, apprehension and arrest of law violators, and safeguarding of lives and property.

Essential Functions:

  • Patrols city parks for to prevent, detect, and respond to criminal activity and dangers to persons and property.

  • Assists Parks and Recreation with administrative and security-related tasks for public events.

  • Participates in ongoing training and maintains required certification and licensure.

  • Provides court testimony as necessary.

  • Performs administrative duties; completes and maintains accurate records and documentation.

  • Participates in meetings.

  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience(

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered):

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Associates Degree or 2 years of college in Criminal Justice, Park Management, Psychology, Sociology, or related field preferred.

Licenses or Certifications

  • Class A Peace Officer Standards and Training License.

  • Valid drivers license.

  • CPR certification.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Relevant federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.

  • Departmental policies and procedures.

  • Law enforcement vehicles, equipment, tools, and technology.

Skill in:

  • Operating police vehicles and specialized equipment.

  • Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience.
