BlueHalo is looking for a Cellular Systems Software Engineer with expertise in cellular and embedded systems development environments. The Cellular Systems Software Engineer role requires a self-motivated learner working individually or as part of a team to design, develop, test, and deploy cellular transceivers and protocols on embedded systems. Knowledge of and/or ability to rapidly learn wireless communications, protocols, exploits, and vulnerabilities will be critical to designing and evaluating operational systems.

You’d like to do this

  • Cellular systems, generational technologies (e.g., 2G/3G/4G/5G) and standards (e.g., GSM, UMTS, CDMA2000, LTE, WiMAX, 5G NR)

  • Use of cellular networks for data connectivity (e.g., wireless sensor networks, Cellular IoT)

  • Advanced programming in ARM architecture. Preferably one or more of the following languages: C, C++, Rust, Python, JavaScript

  • Hardware design, preferably including:

  • COTS hardware and configurations

  • System-on-Chip ARM architecture

  • Radio design concepts

  • SDRs

  • Antenna design

  • Secure system design and implementation (e.g., cellular transport encryption, FDE)

  • Cellular identity (e.g., SIM/e-SIM) architectures

  • Perform Layer 1 wireless communications analysis to evaluate vulnerabilities.

  • Use of GPS simulation for building test environments

  • Embedded Linux distributions (e.g., OpenWRT), boot environments and utilities (e.g., U-Boot, Barebox, BusyBox), process and system manipulation (e.g., ps, nice, init, systemd), and networking/dataflow tools (e.g., nmap, netcat/socat/ncat, tcpdump).

  • Test:

  • Authorzing Test Plans

  • Executing unit tests

  • Documenting results

  • Penetration testing

  • Version control systems (e.g., SVN, Git).

  • Ticketing / task tracking systems (e.g., Jira).

  • Lead a team

You’re required to have this

  • Ten (10) years’ experience in software/firmware design and development

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university. An appropriate Master's degree may be substituted for 2 of the required years of experience.

  • This position requires the successful candidate to have and maintain an active federal security clearance, TS/SCI clearance with a poly is required.
