TITLE: Senior Systems Engineer

REPORTS TO: Program Manager

FLSA: Non-exempt full-time


Division: Parsons S&GS Mission Solutions

Location: Colorado Springs, CO

Parsons is looking for a Senior System Engineering Integration and Test to provide support for the NTS-3 ground system. Candidate should have significant experience in satellite ground system architecture, composition, integration, software functions and flow. Candidate should demonstrate strong system engineering practices, understand how different software systems work need to work together, and hare familiar with all ground system testing from software development testing to operations acceptance test, and individual component testing to end-to-end system tests. Significant experience in hardware in the loop and software only test methodologies is a must. This candidate must be able to create engineering documentation including diagrams, software user manuals, test plans, test procedures, data flow diagrams in a thorough, complete, concise, and easy to understand manner. Candidate must be able to explain the flow of data from a spacecraft through all equipment and software to the operator and similarities and difference of data flow back to the spacecraft. Candidate must be able to work with software developers, cyber/security engineers, system administrators, network engineers, system engineers, testers, technical writers, and other SEIT personnel.

Minimum of 10-15 years of operational experience and knowledge in space-to-ground communications, daily maintenance, mission planning, installing and configuring complex ground system software is a must.

Understanding of model based system engineering practices, software development processes, virtual and cloud-based software integration, and experimental spacecraft satellite subsystem knowledge is a plus.

MAJOR FUNCTION: Provide system engineering integration and test activities to install, configure, and test highly complex satellite ground control software.

Responsibilities - Essential Functions

Systems Engineer (SEIT)

  • Identify upgrades and fixes for the spacecraft ground control system and coordinate the needed software and hardware updates with the development team in order to meet mission requirements

  • Subject matter expertise in space and ground system readiness, planning, preparation, execution, and evaluation

  • Engineering documentation development, updates, and maintenance

  • Perform unit, integration, and regression tests

  • Subject matter expertise in payload mission, scheduling, data trending and analysis, real-time operations, and spacecraft anomaly identification and resolution

  • Subject matter expertise in operational procedures, automation, technical data, test plans, test reports, training materials, and daily reports as required

  • Support and coordinate with Parsons leadership in the daily coordination of the ground system deficiencies and interaction with appropriate product owners to ensure proper function of the ground system

Required Skills/Abilities - Competencies

  • Understanding of the Program Managements and Systems Engineering development lifecycle and change management process, operations concept development, System and product design, requirements management, technical risk management, interface definition and control

  • Familiarity with orbital operations and mission management

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with and communicate with all levels of management and individual contributors on the program team

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of tools

  • Experience with spacecraft ground systems

  • Experience in integration and/or verification and validation

  • Experience with complex satellite ground systems, particularly previous deployment of developed systems to ground station operations

  • Experience working in an Agile or DevOps development environment, being part of a highly integrated team working closely with the spacecraft, software, hardware, integration and development is a plus

Required Education and Experience

  • No degree and 20+ year related technical experience

  • Associates and 15+ years, or

  • Bachelor's and 10+ years

Minimum Security Clearance

  • DoD Secret

  • Clearable to Secret

Shift & Travel

  • Candidate will need to perform SEIT activities in a lab environment on premises work and/or travel as needed by customer

The anticipated annualized full time target compensation (median) for this position is: $130,000.00.Benefits for this position include: medical, dental, vision, paid time off, Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and 401K.
