Colorado Early Colleges Lead Cook in Colorado Springs, Colorado

This is a school-based position that works 180 days during the school year (August to mid-May), with an annual salary of $28,800.00.

Position Purpose

The Lead Cook is responsible for the prep, batch cooking, and execution of meal service to all CEC locations in the assigned areas. Furthermore, this position acts as key kitchen team member, supporting all aspects of daily meal production and works with the Kitchen Manager to ensure that high-quality, locally sourced meal options are readily available to students and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produces daily, batch cooked meals according to the established weekly food production schedule.
  • Coordinates with kitchen staff on needs, recipe flavor profiles, and portioning adjustments.
  • Works with department staff to develop new recipes with feature robust flavors and local ingredients.
  • Delegates cooking and food prep tasks as needed to ensure meal service deadlines, yields, and schedules are met consistently.
  • Cross trained in all areas of the kitchen.
  • Communicates baking needs to staff on a regular basis and incorporates fresh baked goods into meals.
  • Provides mentoring and support to other CEC kitchens by sharing experience, knowledge, and tips on cooking quality and scalability.
  • Coaches students on safe food handling techniques.
  • Supports the management of food inventory to ensure that all customers have access to meals and snacks.
  • Provides guidance to team members on grab-n-go and salad bar options.
  • Supports the Meal Coordinator by ensuring that portions, deadlines, and yields are met on time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED Certificate Three years of experience in the Food Service industry or a School Kitchen ServeSafe Certificate
