POSITION TITLE: Cook Full-Time REPORTS TO: Direct Supervisor

SUMMARY OF POSITION: As a team member, oversee food service, ensuring cost effectiveness and compliance with standard health and safety practices. Assume the daily preparation of the noon and evening meals. Daily maintain a clean and orderly kitchen.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES: Ensure hospitable, pleasant and respectful greetings to all who enter the kitchen. Work as a team with the other full time cook and direct supervisor with bimonthly meetings. Foster good communication with all involved parties: supervisors, leadership, sisters, staff and guests. Maintain a clean and orderly environment throughout the kitchen and food storage areas. Promote a quiet atmosphere realizing this is a monastic community that values a quiet environment. This means no radios/music in the kitchen, only ear buds from a portable device in a pocket. Reverently handle and care for all equipment to ensure long use and a quiet atmosphere for the Sisters. Work with a positive attitude and be able to take constructive criticism as a tool in learning Demonstrate an ability to work independently, take initiative and work in a collaborative team. Practice confidentiality. Honor, respect and value the Charism, Philosophy, Vision and Mission of Benet Hill Monastery. Ensure consistent application of Benet Hill Monastery employee handbook, policies, standards, and procedures.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan menus every other week. Collaborate this planning as a team. Prepare the noon main meal following the guidelines set for special diets. Prepare the evening meal following the guidelines set for special diets: (soup, salad, sandwiches, relish tray, meat, fish and egg salads (i.e.: ham salad), hot dogs, and cold cuts). Make fresh tea every other day and place in containers in the dining room refrigerator. Keep the dining room refrigerator stocked with food and drinks. Every other week: Prepare the shopping list, do the shopping, put all supplies away appropriately. Wash dishes in the dishwashers. Clean and dry pots and pans used in the preparation of meals. Ensure that all prepared and thawed food is labelled, dated and rotated. Food is recycled or disposed after three days (72 hours). Use leftover foods in a tasty and attractive manner. Clean microwave daily. Clean counters, serving line, sweep the kitchen and serving area and scrub (with hot water) the floors before leaving. Keep the stove top and all ovens clean. Ensure that next day entr e is thawing overnight in a safe manner. Keep the refrigerators and freezers clean and orderly inside and out. Monitor and record refrigerator temperature and notify supervisor if not in safe range. Wipe down all stainless steel equipment with appropriate cleaner. Work with supervisor, with changing times and special events. Ensure that the Sunday cook has all the supplies they need and the meat they need is thawed. Provide treats periodically for community and community meetings. Demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality. Performs other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the Leadership Team.

REQUIREMENTS: Experienced in preparation of meals. Effective human relation and communication skills. Complete a successful background check. Ability to work a flexible schedule as outlined along with some holidays and special events.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND DEMANDS: Requires grasping, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), talking and hearing. Light to medium physical demands, requiring adequate visual acuity.
