Focus on the Family Facilities Technician 3 in Colorado Springs, Colorado

The Facilities Technician III position exists to work to prevent failures and shutdowns through rigorous preventative maintenance routines and tracking. Performs a variety of semi-skilled duties in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting or drywall and finishing. As a Facilities Technician III, works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function, and has gained a high level of proficiency in general maintenance and multiple trades or competencies relevant to the job. This position refers only specific, unusual problems to supervisor.

This position offers a $500 hiring bonus. The bonus will be paid to the hired candidate half after 30 days ($250) and half upon the successful completion of 6 months of work ($250). Employees must be active and in good standing at the time of bonus payout to be eligible for hiring bonuses.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Is accountable for campus wide preventative maintenance and predictive repairs

  • Works exclusively through a work order time, materials, and asset tracking system

  • Maintains all tools and equipment used in maintenance tasks

  • Is responsible for keeping work, equipment, and construction areas clean and organized

  • Is able to prioritize and group work orders for maximum efficiency and stewardship

  • Maintains, at minimum, a diagnostic level understanding of all building systems

  • Is responsible for minor repairs on buildings, systems, and equipment

  • Is the go-to resource for all building system points of entry, shut off, and emergency response locations

  • Works with and provides access to vendors for various trades

  • Is an active participant in safety tasks and incident responses within the facilities area of expertise

  • Keeps an accurate log and maintains a proper inventory of supplies

  • Manages documentation of standards by building for finishes

  • Adheres to strict safety standards

  • Removes snow in response to snow events

    Trade or disciplines expected:

  • Carpentry/Paint: Walls, doors, trim, flooring

  • Electrical/Lighting: System Furniture, Electrical system PM, Light replacement

  • Mechanical: Level 3 diagnostics and repair, system PM schedules

  • Landscape/Irrigation: Ongoing plant and yard care, irrigation system management and repair

  • IoT Systems: HVAC, Lighting, Fire Alarm, Irrigation system coordination, programming, and diagnostics

  • Plumbing: Leak resolution, fixture replacement, new work planning

    Other Duties/Responsibilities:

  • 1st responder to all emergencies on campus

  • Able to be a driver for Focus equipment: trucks, tractors, plows, carts front loader, lift

  • Drives forklifts and pallet jacks in warehouse and office environment

  • Occasionally oversees contractor led projects

  • Maintains availability for on-call response for emergency or planned after hour events

  • Performs other duties as assigned

    Managerial Breadth/Scope of Job:

  • Instructs and oversees work of Facilities Tech I and II as assigned

    Working Environment/Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a Post Offer Prehire Physical exam

  • Must be able to carry up to 70lbs

  • Must be able to lift up to 70lbs

  • Must be able to push/pull up to 50lbs

  • Must be able to walk 6 hours/day

  • Requires repetitive tasks/motions, good eye-hand-foot coordination, good manual dexterity, and able to distinguish colors

  • Must be able to hear alarms/phone/tape recorder/normal speaking voice

  • Frequently requires climbing, bending, kneeling, squatting, crawling, crouching, balancing, and reaching above the head

  • Exposure to various conditions such as dust, fumes, and temperature extremes

    Personal Characteristics:

  • Must be detail oriented, with a strong mechanical aptitude, able to perform multiple tasks

  • Must have an even temperament that allows for working in a high-pressure environment

  • Possess and develops leadership skills in relation to their role

    Knowledge/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus construction trades school

  • Degree a plus in one or more of Electrical, Mechanical, Construction, or Civil Engineering

  • 3-5 years of experience in building maintenance or construction

    Skills, Abilities, and Special Talents/Gifts:

  • Ability to read construction blueprints, understand specifications, and maintain proper code requirements

  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport with employees in other departments

  • Ability to work independently without immediate supervision

  • Familiarity with U.B.C., N.E.C., and local building codes

  • Ability to operate various construction trades power and hand tools

  • Ability to occasionally operate heavy equipment, i.e., forklifts, tractors, large trucks

  • Ability to research, make a diagnosis and repair system problems and failures

  • Ability to operate a variety of welding equipment

    Pay Range: $22.00 to $25.25/hr
