The salary range listed represents a broad range for this position. It is anticipated, the starting pay rate for this position will begin at $3,255 per month (effective 7/1/24). Position will receive shift differential pay for all applicable hours.

Description of Job

JOB DUTIES: Your application must provide a detailed description of your relevant work experience in relation to the following duties: This full-time position at the Financial Services Office Student Accounts Department and will be responsible for all monies collected and disbursed for and by the College. All transactions are reviewed to verify that they are in compliance with College policy and State Fiscal Rules. The Accounting Technician I will provide support to the Financial Services Office by recording cash received by the college; this includes ascertaining the correct account codes and maintaining a file system for all cash receipt balances. This position carefully reviews and itemizes the functions and objects of the general ledger for cost accounting purposes; provide accurate accounting information and financial statements to the College, the State Controller's Office and outside agencies.

Primary duties include:

• Create monthly schedule for cashiers at three campuses.

• Responsible for all monies collected and disbursed for and by the College.

• All transactions are reviewed to verify that they are in compliance with College policy and State Fiscal Rules.

• The functions and objects of the general ledger are carefully reviewed and itemized for cost accounting purposes.

• Provide accurate accounting information and financial statements to the College, State Controller's Office, and outside agencies.

• Determine the proper account number to deposit receipts and the proper code for classification of revenue to achieve reporting of cash receipts by source.

• Provide support to the Financial Services Office by recording cash received by the college; this includes ascertaining the correct account codes and maintaining a file system for all cash receipt balances.

• Determine the proper account number to deposit receipts to either by payment received at the cashier's window or through the U.S. mail.

• Balance daily batches by comparing the activity recorded on the system to the day's bank deposit and reconcile any variances.

• Figures bank deposits by filling in deposit slips and filling in deposit log for Loomis Fargo.

• Fill in a log of all bank deposits which are totaled and balanced weekly.

• Distribution of all checks held in the cashier's window by verifying proper identification, and in the case of student loans and veteran advance checks, verify enrollment and account balances.

• Communicate with students registered for classes the payment options, financial aid awards, or figure their portion due when they have tuition assistance.

• Control Petty cash fund by assuring there are adequate levels of cash for making change and cashing checks.

• Balance credit card payments made on the web to Banner student account systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience Only:

One year of technical accounting, cashiering or bookkeeping experience.

Do not use "SEE RESUME" statements on application; your application must be completed in detail and clearly document your relevant work experience. (Part time experience will be pro-rated) .

OR

Education and Experience:

One year (30 semester hours) of college, university or non-correspondence business school which included twelve (12) semester credit hours of accounting can substitute for the required experience. (YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF YOUR UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS WITH YOUR APPLICATION IF YOU ARE APPLYING USING THIS SUBSTITUTION).

Highly Desirable: Associate's degree or higher in Accounting. Experience working with Banner or similar system, especially in the Student and/or Accounts Receivable modules. Recent experience utilizing computer spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel. Relevant State Service listed and considered. Understand and determine appropriate rules and regulations from various sources. Attention to detail. Ability to handle multiple tasks. Proficiency utilizing a keyboard and 10-key adding machine with speed and accuracy.

Necessary Special Requirements: Must submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check as a condition of hire. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position.
