Job Title: Respiratory Therapist

Department: Respiratory

Position Summary:Under the supervision of a physician and the Directory of Respiratory Therapy, administers a variety of technical procedures and assists in the cleaning, maintenance and disinfection of respiratory therapy equipment.

Qualifications:

• Graduate of an approved JRCRTE program.
• Certified as a CRT or RRT in the state of Texas.
• Current in CPR, ACLS, and NRP preferred.
• Knowledge of respiratory therapy equipment.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Duties, Responsibilities, and Skills:

1. Under the direction of a physician, performs respiratory therapy treatments and procedures on patients.
2. Performs pulmonary function testing.
3. Administer gas and aerosol therapy using various oxygen/aerosol equipment and various respiratory drugs using hand-held ambulizers.
4. Performs ABG or CBG and analysis of blood.
5. Maintains patients airways and removes secretions through various methods.
6. Places patients on ventilators and monitors them every two hours or as needed, places patients on non-evasive ventilators/BIPAP or CPAP.
7. Performs ECGs with computerized interpretation of results for physicians.
8. Provides care appropriate for the neonate and the pediatric IC patients based on knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
9. Assesses and interoperates data on neonate, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients status to identify patients requirements relative to their age-specific needs and provides care needed as stipulated in departmental policy.
10. Performs PHTs, stress tests and Holton Monitors.

B. Assists in the cleaning, maintenance and sterilization of respiratory therapy equipment.

1. Performs minor and preventative maintenance on equipment and reports problems to the Director.
2. Sterilizes equipment using different types of sterilization procedures.

C. Maintains files and prepares documents and reports as required.

1. Enters respiratory therapy procedures in the patients medical record.
2. Prepares records and patient charges as directed.
3. Assists with the maintenance of statistics and other information for department reporting requirements.

Other Significant Requirements:

1. Maintain HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
2. Follow all policies and procedures set forth by Mitchell County Hospital District.
3. Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking, bending and reaching when providing patient care. Pushing and pulling of equipment, lifting of supplies up to 50 pounds and occasional heavy lifting or supporting patients who may suddenly become weak or helpless.
4. Interact with medical staff members on a continuous basis
5. Follow aseptic procedures and procedures for using precautions when involved in direct contact or handling infectious materials.
6. Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.

Work Schedule:

7:00 AM-7:00 PM and on-call as scheduled. 30 minutes for lunch.
