Mitchell County Hospital District Maintenance/ Environmental l Supervisor-Mitchell County Hospital and Rehabilitation in Colorado City, Texas

Department: MAINTENANCE/ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES

Reports To: Administrator

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary: Carry out the duties of the maintenance and housekeeping department for the Nursing Home per policies and procedures set.

OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class III

Qualifications:

Education: High School graduate or equivalent preferred.

Personal Job-Related skills: Ability to read and write.

Current State Driver License Required.

Prior Work Experience: must have as a minimum two (2) years experience in a maintenance department in a health-related facility.

Physical and Mental Requirements: Position requires extended periods of walking and standing. Lifting up to 50 pounds and transporting up to 300 pounds on carts. Pushing and pulling carts, bending, stooping, and reaching in storing supplies and cleaning activities. The ability to climb ladders and reach overhead.

May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.

Must possess ability to work independently and make independent decisions.

Must possess leadership ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise

other personnel.

Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of work areas; must perform regular inspections of resident rooms/units for order, safety, and proper performance of equipment.

Conscientious worker with attention to detail

Knowledge of hospital district/department policies, procedures and operations.

Manual dexterity, both fine and gross motor skills required.

Must be able to follow instructions and assigned routine.

Must be courteous in interactions with residents, family members and other hospital district employees.

Preference for repetitive activities.

Capable of judgment, discretion and respect for confidential information.

Mechanical ability required to operate various machines.

Duties, Responsibilities, and Skills:

Job duties:

Maintain an acceptable attendance and punctuality in accordance with Hospital District Standards.

Protects the confidentiality of resident care information.

Protects the confidentiality of interdepartmental discussions and activities.

Abide by hospital district and department policies and procedures.

Assist in orientation, and training of janitorial personnel.

Train personnel in proper techniques of maintenance/janitorial services, use of equipment, etc., as directed.

Assign personnel to specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments.

Ensure that personnel are performing assigned tasks in accordance with established procedures.

Review and evaluate the work performance of assigned personnel. Make recommendations to the administrator.

Counsel assigned personnel as necessary.

Ensure that janitorial/maintenance personnel follow established safety precausions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.

Ensure that maintenance/janitorial personnel wear and or use safety equipment and supplies when lifting or moving heavy objects.

Ensure that maintenance/janitorial personnel wear protective clothing/devices when performing tasks that involve the handling of biohazardous and or hazardous chemicals

Ensure that containers of hazardous chemicals in the department are properly labeled and

stored.

Assist in maintaining material safety data sheets (MSDSs) for hazardous chemicals in the maintenance department.

Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to the Administrator.

Ensure that established infection control and universal precautions practices are maintained when performing maintenance procedures.

Observes safe lifting procedures and works with others in moving heavy furniture.

Assist co-workers in their responsibilities as necessary.

Responsibilities:

Make sure cleaning staff door is locked before going home, evening shift.

Make sure all equipme t is clean and maintained as required.

Other Significant Requirements:

Maintain HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.

Follow all policies and procedures set forth by Hospital District/department.

Be able to climb a ladder for high areas cleaning.

Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.

Work Schedule:

Day shift: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00p.m.
