ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

Role Profile

Position: 3rd or 4th Class Steam Engineer

Job Location: Goodall Manufacturing - Collingwood, Ontario

Operating Business: LGG Industrial, LP

Job Type: Full-Time

Status: Non-Exempt

Summary of the Role

This role is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of automated or computerized control systems and auxiliary equipment such as boilers, pumps, compressors, etc. and assisting the facility to meet production targets by maintaining high standards of preventative maintenance and timely repair of production machinery. A significant portion of this role requires production machinery maintenance. This position reports to the facility Maintenance Manager (chief engineer).

Responsibilities

  • Must maintain 100% commitment to safety policies and procedures

  • Operate automated or computerized control systems, and auxiliary equipment such as boilers, pumps, compressors, pollution control devices and other equipment for the building, industrial plants.

  • Start up and shut down power plant equipment, control switching operations, regulate boiler chemical levels; operate process autoclaves;

  • Preventative maintenance and trouble shooting on compressors;

  • Monitor and inspect plant equipment, switches, valves, gauges, alarms, meters and other instruments to measure temperature, pressure and fuel flow, to detect leaks or other equipment malfunctions and to ensure plant equipment is operating at maximum efficiency

  • Analyze and record instrument readings and equipment malfunctions

  • Troubleshoot and perform corrective action and repairs to prevent equipment or system failure;

  • Clean and lubricate pumps and compressors and perform other routine equipment maintenance duties using appropriate lubricants and hand, power and precision tools.

  • Maintain a daily log of operation, maintenance and safety activities, and write reports on plant operation.

  • Assist in the development of operation, maintenance and safety procedures.

  • Monitor and visually inspect station instruments, meters and alarms to ensure transmission voltages and line loadings are within prescribed limits and to detect equipment failure, line disturbances and outages

  • Issue work to mechanical maintenance personnel,

  • Assist maintenance and technical personnel to locate and isolate system problems, and assist during routine system testing

  • Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are followed on all production mechanical machinery and complete repairs as necessary;

  • Complete and maintain station records, logs and reports.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Minimum 2 year post-secondary technical training (or equivalent) is required;

  • A valid (minimum) 3rd or 4th class Power Engineering certificate.

  • Experience operating plant boilers, air compressors, steam condensers, air dryers, fan pumps, water filtration/supply/discharge systems.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Self-starter with an ability to work with limited supervision

  • Excellent sense of urgency, work ethic and attendance record

  • Millwright experience is highly desirable.

  • Able to sit, walk, stand for extended periods of time

  • Able to work extended hours (if needed)

  • Able to work day or night shifts

  • Lift up to 50lbs
