National Archives and Records Administration Supervisory Archivist in College Park, Maryland
Summary This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Research Services Central Office. This position is responsible for setting archival project priorities and identifying, planning, and implementing projects pertaining to records in the custody of the organization; internal and external communications; training; and supervising a team. Responsibilities As a Supervisory Archivist, you will: - Assist management in planning the work, support the members of the work groups in accomplishing mutually agreed-upon goals, encourage individual and staff development, and evaluate the work of the work groups and individual members. - Provide administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit, particularly through collaborative efforts. - Organize, develop, and implement multiple projects relating to the establishment of physical and intellectual control over permanently valuable records and complete access review. - Participate in studies of proposed changes in archival practices and policies. - Carry out complex professional assignments involving internal and external communications, training, and other related activities. Requirements Conditions of Employment The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. A one year probationary period may be required. A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Qualifications You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: - Leading a team, program, or project, using time management to complete work within set deadlines; AND - Experience with archival principles, procedures, and techniques to make decisions in the analysis and handling of records; AND - Collaborating, working with customers, and executing communication strategies, plans or policies to individuals. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12 level for 52 weeks. Education Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Individual Occupational Requirements: Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government. OR Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
