Pilgrim's PRODUCTION ACCOUNTANT in Cold Spring, Minnesota

POSITION SUMMARY: The Production Accountant is responsible for moderately complex accounting activities related to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and the resulting reports and financial statements. Prepares, researches, and analyzes accounting data. Prepares intermediate level reports and financial statements. Applies accounting practices and concepts to perform a variety of accounting tasks that support the overall objectives of the department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares financial statements and/or special reports by preparing balance sheets and income statements. Reports, collects, analyzes, and summarizes account information and trends.

  • Examines various accounting documents to verify accuracy of calculations and to ensure that documents are in accordance with standard accounting procedures.

  • Reviews transactions and verifies that all transactions are properly supported. Ensures that transactions are in accordance with pertinent policies and procedures and are classified and recorded according to acceptable accounting standards.

  • Prepares income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements, and various other accounting statements and reports.

  • Analyzes financial reports and records, making recommendations relative to the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.

  • Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records. Balances accounts to appropriate funds. Reconciles and/or makes corrections.

  • Conducts special studies and develops or recommends accounting methods and procedures.

  • Prepares journal entries to transfer, adjust and/or correct computerized accounting records. Ensures accuracy and completeness of entries. Enters transactions into accounting system.

  • May be required to travel.

  • May require availability outside of normal business hours.

  • Other duties as required.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a team member encounters while performing the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the team member will be exposed to both an office environment and, infrequently, the production environment of wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the production environment is usually loud while the noise level in the office environment is usually quiet.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field is required; or significant (5+) years in a directly related position will be considered in lieu of the education requirement.

  • Minimum of 2 years clerical accounting experience is required.

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

  • Must be able to examine and verify financial documents and reports.

  • Must be able to prepare a variety of reports and analyses.

  • Knowledge of SAP or comparable ERP system, Excel and Microsoft.

  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, methods and equipment.

  • Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and practices.

    CANDIDATES ARE EXPECTED TO:

  • Limited travel, with overnight stays of 1-4 days.

  • Must be able to work varying days (including weekends).
