Compensation for the Senior Buyer

  • \$65,000 \$85,000 Annually DOE

Responsibilities for the Senior Buyer

  • Responsible for procuring a wide variety of supplies and services that are often complex in nature.
  • Creates and manages Purchase Orders per MRP requirements. Responsive to MRP demand fluctuations to support production requirements.
  • Supplies and services are purchased at the lowest possible price consistent with required quality and/or delivery schedules, in accordance with applicable government and company regulations.
  • Develops and manages the supply base for components being introduced to and currently included in production, with emphasis on securing better-value sources of supply.
  • Negotiates and coordinates procurement for long-lead components; negotiates long-term pricing for production components; coordinates procurement of first production components through First Article Inspection (FAI) approval process, while following established purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Creates, negotiates, implements, and manages long-term purchase agreements with critical suppliers.
  • Understands and reviews purchased part design changes to ensure accuracy and effective approval through Change Control Board (CCB), engineering specifications to ensure that they meet design and manufacturing requirements, and supplier production manufacturing processes to ensure efficiencies and cost savings opportunities are maximized.
  • Alongside Supplier Quality, oversees supplier performance, monitors corrective actions, and addresses systemic quality concerns with the supplier as required.

Requirements for the Senior Buyer

  • Bachelors degree or an equivalent combination of formal education, on-the-job training, and/or work experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of related work experience is required, with recent experience supporting a manufacturing organization is preferred
  • Microsoft Office experience including proficiency in Excel and Word
  • Certificates and Licenses: PMP certification is preferred
  • Other Requirements: Specialized knowledge of aerospace commercial or military contracting and procurement requirements, and understanding of financial and labor cost systems and production processes
  • Occasional business travel, with the ability for short notice may be required
  • Experience buying pre-preg is desirable
  • Proven negotiation skills and the ability to manage multiple suppliers to deliver positive value to the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of MRP / ERP systems
  • Knowledge of Bill of Materials (BOM) structure
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications for the Senior Buyer

  • Experience n a highly regulated industry, especially aerospace
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to successfully work cross-functionally in the business
  • Proven negotiation skills and the ability to manage multiple suppliers to deliver positive value to the organization
  • Well organized with solid judgment; able to multitask and adjust to changing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to evaluate both historical and forecast demands, interpret trends, and take appropriate action
