Rig Operator Job Summary
The Rig Operator position leads daily oil and gas service rig operations. The position is diverse and will vary daily. The Rig Operator works with equipment they are qualified to operate safely, such as a service rig, mud pump, power swivel, power tools, and heavy equipment. This position requires working in all types of inclement and extreme weather conditions. The position also requires a commitment to delivering a high level of service, following safety rules, federal and state laws and regulations, and always representing CSR Services professionally and courteously.
Role and Responsibilities
- Manage a rig team and work alongside support services such as roustabouts, well logging, and cementing.
- Work to promote a company-wide culture that ensures that Safety is everybody's business.
- Safely operate all equipment on the well site, move pipe, casing, and rods
- Ensure well servicing/plugging procedures are followed as planned and conducted optimally, working to meet customer needs.
- Oversee the pipe being tallied, properly run, and equipment ready for the cement job.
- Assemble or repair equipment using hand and power tools.
- Secure and safely transport all equipment according to DOT regulations.
- Lead clean-up of spills on well site locations and yard
- Is responsible for operations following all government regulations.
- Work with the field supervisor to organize and order the necessary services and equipment to conduct operations efficiently.
- Work with the Rig Supervisor to ensure the efficiency of your operation.
- Ensure that the rig and auxiliary equipment are adequately and appropriately maintained.
- Maintain inventory of all equipment/materials/supplies to ensure smooth ongoing operation.
- Lead daily Job Safety Assessments and routine maintenance checks and document any concerns.
- Communicate professionally with customers, regulators, the rig team, CSR support teams, and the public.
- Is responsible for continuously enforcing health and safety procedures, using PPE, and making capable decisions in emergencies to prevent injuries and equipment damage.
- Ensure potential pollution control problems are considered and related contingency plans are understood by rig and visiting personnel.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Ability, and Education Requirements
- Minimum high school diploma or GED preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of Oil and Gas Service rig operations experience.
- A minimum of one (1) year working as a rig operator, including proficiency with all relevant tools and equipment.
- Well control certification/training.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license, CDL preferred.
- Possess a DOT Medical Card and demonstrated working knowledge of DOT regulations.
- Ability to lift 75 pounds.
- Must pass the company drug screen and background check before employment.
- The candidate must be willing and able to work in a field environment in all weather and all noise environments.
- The candidate must be able to use hands, arms, and legs to manage, install, position, move, and manipulate materials.
- Requires ability to sit, stand, walk, lift heavy materials, carry, push, pull, climb stairs and ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, bend repeatedly, and reach high and low. This is a physically demanding position.
Compensation
Approximately 40-55 hours per week, Monday-Friday, first (day turn) shift. The hourly rate is from $21-$28 per hour, depending on experience. Eligible for Per Diem when working on well sites located out of town.
