Hamilton College Social Media and Digital Community Manager in Clinton, New York
The Social Media & Digital Community Manager leads the College’s social media marketing and digital community building efforts. They must be a creative and strategic thinker who can identify, develop, and leverage new opportunities in the constantly evolving realm of social media. Working with colleagues, this person will play a critical role in content development and distribution. This position requires some evening and weekend hours.
This is an exempt position with a pay range of $60,000 - $75,000.
Responsibilities
Leads, maintains and enhances a social media and digital marketing strategy with short- and long-term objectives
Manages a day-to-day social media content calendar that delivers the College’s key messages and encourages dialogue across various social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, etc.)
Leads efforts to build online communities, engage Hamilton’s audiences, and coordinate targeted digital outreach to achieve institutional goals
Researches standards, best practices, trends, and breakthroughs in social media, communicating results and recommendations to Communications & Marketing colleagues
Uses current social media trends and best practices to determine which channels are most effective for reaching target audiences
Guides and educates campus constituents (academic departments, athletics, student life, admission, etc.) on social media guidelines and best practices for representing Hamilton College
Monitors the effectiveness of Hamilton’s social media strategy, devises benchmarks, and makes recommendations for how the team can develop collateral that will engage the target audience(s) across various platforms
Coordinates organic and paid social media, search and display marketing campaigns
Research, track, and analyze audience behaviors and trends and implement research into social and digital campaigns
Develop and monitor campaign budgets
Prepare reports with analytics on the overall performance of various campaigns
Devises strategies that use social media tools to reach media outlets and key higher education leaders and reporters in collaboration with the Senior Director of Media Relations
Assists with managing a social media content producer and a team of students responsible for photography and some video production
Researches digital engagement characteristics, habits, and trends by prospective students, parents, and alumni
Makes a reasonable effort to become involved in the Hamilton community
Attends professional development activities as made available
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree
At least 3-5 years of professional experience working with social media platforms and social media marketing tools
Experience managing and responding to challenging interactions on social media
Strong understanding of social media best practices, algorithms, and trends
Social media management experience strongly preferred
Supervisory experience preferred
Higher education experience preferred

Ability to conceptualize and execute the College’s social media strategy and measure its effectiveness
Ability to translate key messages into creative concepts that align with the College’s editorial and visual style
Exceptional writing and editing skills
Thinks strategically and communicates clearly
Strong interpersonal skills; works collegially and interacts effectively with office colleagues and campus partners
Meets deadlines, is self-motivated, and can work collaboratively and independently
Effective time management and organizational skills
