Case Western Reserve University Senior Research Assistant 1 in Cleveland, Ohio
POSITION OBJECTIVE
Working under general supervision, the Senior Research Assistant 1 will carry out research in the department of Biomedical Engineering in the School of Medicine and as part of the newly launched Center for Artificial Intelligence Enabling Discovery in Disease Biology at Case Western Reserve University. The senior research assistant 1 will conduct research projects and perform research work with medical images and related technical activities to support ongoing collaborative intra- and inter-institutional efforts. This will include collating and organizing datasets and running evaluations and image measurement analyses. The senior research assistant 1 will also play a role in quantitative characterization of medical images from different diseases and work closely with the principal investigator and other lab/team researchers in the application of analysis for ongoing funded research. This is a full-time position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist with planning and conducting experiments by utilizing analytical software and collecting and measuring variables for quantifying disease characteristics on images. This will also include the use of routine software programs to view, manipulate, and measure images for further use and analysis. (60%)
- Collaborate with lab staff and the principal investigator to conduct a series of studies to supply scientific information as part of larger, ongoing projects. May conduct specific experiments and tasks independently. (10%)
- Collect, analyze, and present data regularly at lab meetings, support the preparation of manuscripts, and contribute preliminary data for grant proposals. (10%)
Assist in the development of improved analytical techniques and procedures., including maintenance of the computing environment. Maintain records and summarize information in scientific manuscripts. (10%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCITONS
- Maintain research data utilized in experiments by working with senior collaborators to ensure images and measurements are of sufficient quality and usability by the lab. (5%)
- May assist in training new staff and students on lab operations and maintenance; direct the work of student researchers and interns. (5%)

CONTACTS
Department: Daily contact with principal investigator, faculty, research staff, and administrative staff to discuss research and maintain workflow.
University: Occasional contact with other departments to share information and research findings; as needed.
External: Occasional contact with supply vendors, other institutions, and funding agencies; as needed.
Students: Contact with Undergraduate and graduate student employees and interns to collaborate and exchange information.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no direct supervisory responsibility. Oversee and train laboratory student trainees in experimental and study design and data analysis for various projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and experience: Bachelor's degree and 6 months of related experience or Associate's degree in an approved biotechnology program and 1 year of experience.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Experience in using routine image software tools on medical images. Ability to analyze and measure data and in vivo image collection.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills; must demonstrate the ability to effectively and professionally communicate and work with various individuals within the department and the university.
