In the Louveau lab, we study the role of the surrounding of the brain and spinal cord, called the meninges, in normal and pathological brain function. Contrary to the parenchyma that is virtually devoid of immune cells, except microglia, under normal conditions, the meninges harbor a rich and dynamic immune environment. The meninges are strategically positioned to be the interface between the periphery and the parenchyma, but we still do not fully understand how the meningeal compartment is interfering with brain function.
This position will handle rodent colonies within the lab.
A caregiver in this position works 8:30am-5:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform laboratory techniques and procedures required for experimental studies.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Perform technical lab duties.
Schedule and perform various analyses.
Assist with establishing and scheduling various procedures and analyses.
Prepare reagents, purify chemicals, and identify, separate and quantify various substances.
Conduct testing and procedures utilizing laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
Accumulate data from analyses.
Prepare charts, graphs, statistical tables, publications, grant proposals and applications for research forms.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma or GED.
2 years of experience in a research or related laboratory environment OR an associate's degree in a laboratory science field and 1 year of work experience OR a bachelor's degree.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
Ability to distinguish color
Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment
Ability to lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20 pounds
May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, bio-hazards, radioactive materials, etc.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $18.88
Maximum hourly: $28.80
