1 Experience (Years) 4 Category Technical - Mechanical Type of Position Regular Full-Time Level Skilled Trade/Journey Level Visa Requirements Citizen only Overview The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) contract at the NASA Glenn Research Center providesengineering and technical services in the aeronautics, space power and propulsion test facilities. We are currently looking for an experienced journeyman level Tool & Die Maker. The Journeyman Level Tool & Die Maker will provide precision machining and assembly using a wide variety of CNC and manual machining equipment. Responsibilities Provide precision machining and assembly using a wide variety of CNC and manual machining equipment. Independently determine full scope of work and logically plan the steps required to complete work efficiently and accurately. Work in a professional, team oriented environment in providing input to engineers and peers on design and machinability options and ideas. Design and modify fixtures and tooling for effectiveness and accuracy of machining assignments. Provide technical guidance to customers and peers to assist them in improving precision, accuracy and reliability of process equipment. Provide direct and indirect support to Prototyping and Assembly for machining, fixture building and assembly activities as requested. Qualifications Four (4) years experience in a job shop environment with varied and strong knowledge of most conventional machining equipment as well as CNC mills, lathes and CNC machining centers. Completion of a Vocational Trades program or an Associate's Degree in Manufacturing. Completion of a Tool & Die Maker Apprenticeship program or equivalent on-the-job training (OJFT) work experience. Strong math background with a good understanding of geometry and trigonometry. Consistently able to work to +/- .001 inch tolerances. A thorough understanding of safe machine shop work practices required. Visualizes and develops parts or equipment that need to be made from sketches, prints, models or other visual aids. May stand for extended periods of time and travel to areas where work is required. Must be capable of following written and oral instructions. Machines include drill presses, lathes, horizontal boring mill, vertical mill, surface grinder, and cut off saw. Use precision measuring equipment.
