JOB DESCRIPTION: HUMAN RESOURCES GENERALIST Position/Title: Human Resources Generalist Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt Reports to: Director of Human Resources GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with management in supporting their business goals. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits, leave, onboarding, compliance, cross-training, and reporting. This position manages the medical and retirement benefit programs ensuring superior offerings and service, program compliance, and cost containment. This position also manages the Workers' Compensation Program and all employee leaves, including medical and family leave. CORE & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Benefits Manage, administer, and ensure compliance for employee benefits programs such as; medical, 401k, dental, vision plans; life insurance plans; disability programs; etc. Manages all aspects of the benefit programs, including but not limited to: program offerings, open enrollments, employee information releases, program documentation and retention, applicable program reporting (federal agencies), accurate program performance, legal compliance (testing, reports, and documentation) and audit support. Frequently evaluate the existing benefit programs to ensure the company's offerings are valued, competitive, and cost-effective. Develop specific recommendations for review by management. Review and analyze changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits, and report necessary or suggested changes to management. Develop benefits information and statistical and census data for actuaries, insurance carriers and management. Documents and maintains administrative procedures for benefits processes; updates process documentation as needed (minimum annually). Handle benefits inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution. Leave Serves as the subject matter expert for leave programs in alignment and under the general direction and guidance of HR leadership and the legal department. Manages and administers all aspects of the company's leave programs in accordance with applicable laws and policies. Provides extensive case management and coordinates administrative aspects of the cases and claims. Serves as the point of contact for third party leave administrator who is responsible for independently approving and/or denying leave cases based on relevant medical information. Partners closely with the HR/Payroll team on all leave cases and conducts regular meetings to review claims' status and develops strategies for resolution. Ensures that STD and/or LTD claims are coordinated with leaves as necessary Supervise the management of employee worker's compensation claims; investigate or oversee the investigation of claims; develop strategies to handle specific claims in consultation with the appropriate parties. Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints regarding worker's compensation claims; evaluate problems and take appropriate action to resolve issues/concerns; advise injured employees of their benefits. Stay abreast of trends and innovations in the field of workers' compensation administration and keep current on legislative and regulatory issues at the State and Federal level. Onboarding Responsible for the pre-employment/off-boarding process for potential new hires and recent employee terminations. Duties include but are not limited to: creating offer/transfer letters, conducting background screenings, drug screenings and pre- employment physicals and informing the appropriate managers of the results, responsible for entering/removing new hire/recent termination information into/from various databases.
