A caregiver in this position works a day/evening rotation of 6:00AM - 2:30PM or 10:30AM - 7:00PM.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Be responsible for a variety of specialized duties related to the receipt, interpretation, and follow-through of patient diet orders.

  • Be responsible for the delivery and collection of trays to and from patients.

  • Ensure that nutrition care diet orders are provided to the patient by offering appropriate menu selections.

  • Act as a liaison between the patient, the Food and Nutrition Services Department, and Nursing Services.

  • Communicate all patient's food needs to the appropriate area of the Food and Nutrition Services Department.

  • Assist the clinical staff in ensuring that all patients' basic nutritional care needs are met.

  • Answer phone line for room service patients' calls and requests.

  • Document food order received over the phone.

  • Call nursing stations, patients, and other employees to clarify diet orders.

  • Organize paperwork and files of room service meal orders.

  • Observe patient's current diet on meal ticket.

  • Set up patient trays to be delivered, deliver patient trays during meal service and deliver nourishments and/or snacks to patients as ordered by physician/dietitian in a timely manner (10:00 a.m. - 6:00p.m.)

  • Visit patients to introduce the services of the Food and Nutrition Services Department.

  • Obtain food preferences/dislikes from patients and/or family members.

  • Ensure that all new admits receive a menu to select lunch and dinner.

  • Complete sanitation tasks.

  • Inventory and re-stock pantries, refrigerator, and freezers on assigned unit(s).

  • Ensure prompt response to requests for service and follow up if delays or product availability problems are identified.

  • Maintain the privacy, safety, and dignity of each customer by observing client confidentiality and by strictly adhering to safety and sanitation standards.

  • Follow Food Production Standards in regard to handling techniques, food storage, and proper food temperatures.

  • Complete production sheets and temperature logs.

  • Deliver early and late patient trays as needed in a timely manner (less than 30 minutes).

  • Demonstrate proficiency in using the CBORD computer system.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Bilingual.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to push carts weighing up to 350 lbs.

  • Able to twist, stoop, bend and squat.

  • Able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.

  • 20% of the day is standing, 60% walking and 20% sitting.

  • Able to maintain focus and perform multiple tasks at one time.
