Genetic Counselor Manager

Genetic counseling can give you information about how genetic conditions may affect you and your family. Genetic counselors can help you determine your risk for developing or passing on certain conditions. Genetic counselors are a healthcare resource that can guide you through learning about your genetics.
A caregiver in this position works 8:00am-5:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Organize and direct the daily workload of a genetic counseling group. Provides regular reports to department leadership on productivity metrics for the team.
Maintain professional relationships, including frequent and open effective communication with internal and external constituents.
Oversee genetic counseling personnel, ensuring orientation and training in standard operating procedures (SOPs) in compliance with sponsoring organization and external regulatory agencies as well as performance management, career development, corrective action, and terminations.
Serve as a resource to departmental staff for professional development. Assists with organizing department-wide opportunities for professional growth, including seminars, training courses, and other resources
Ensure equitable distribution of workload and allocation of resources. Responsible for leading recruitment efforts such as initial screening of candidates, development, and assessment of technical screening tools, and making final recommendations to leadership on candidate selection.
Expertise in performing genetic counseling in accordance with the American Board of Genetic Counseling Genetic Counselors' Scope of Practice guidelines: identify and coordinates appropriate genetic testing, report results to the patient and the referring provider, complete EPIC documentation and billing within established guidelines
Provide genetic counseling services within other Cleveland Clinic institutes and locations and networks with healthcare providers across Cleveland Clinic and from community hospitals.
Identify opportunities for outreach to expand genetic services and works with CPGH Manager to develop these, creates educational opportunities for healthcare providers and/or patients to generate referrals, presents to other healthcare providers and/or participates in community outreach opportunities.
Identify needs for new/revised CPGH education materials and contribute to GMI website and newsletter.
Represent GMI at professional education conferences, provide lectures to genetic counseling students and/or medical trainees, contribute to and/or publish original publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Master's degree from an accredited genetic counseling training program
ACMG (American College of Medical Genetics) or ABGC (American Board of Genetic Counseling) Board certification.
Ohio Medical Board license.
5 years post-graduate clinical experience as a genetic counselor with demonstrated experience in a genetics clinic setting and proven record of addressing complex genetic histories.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Experience supervising genetic counselors or genetic counseling students, or experience managing daily work of a genetic counseling area.
Experience with genetic counseling billing codes and EPIC EMR system.
Experience with counseling for non-traditional low penetrance heritable or non-germline genetic conditions.

Physical Requirements:
- Typical physical demands include a high degree of dexterity sufficient to operate a personal computer in the course of work, normal or corrected vision, extensive sitting and frequent walking, occasional lifting or carrying of 5 to 15 pounds.
